It is potentially an increase in labor cost.

Government mandated?

And do men get the same rights? I mean women are all about equality right?

Nobody made her get pregnant. It's not a medical condition. It's a natural state of being for the female body.

they are ok when toddlers, but still cry way too much for me.

I'd think it'd be fair if the man or the woman takes the benefit as opposed to only the woman. Some countries in Europe have their paternal leave system set up so that either parent can take the benefit.

well there's that whole, producing milk for the baby thing that is kind of important. Unless you are lactating, i doubt the kid is getting the milk from you.

Our 1st is due in a couple weeks and i'd much rather her have maternity leave than i do. I'm not pushing a baby through a tiny opening, or having it cut out. Ergo, i do not need the rest period. I'm also not producing food for the baby in my body.

By an employer or by the government? Employers - I am all for it. Government - no.

In my business IF we have a female have a baby she will get 90 days PTO.

I don't know that anyone is against paid maternity leave. Now, requiring someone to pay for someone else's maternity leave is a different thing altogether.

In my market and industry, women would bitch about this. 12 weeks at least, or else you're basically asking women to go back to the stone age.

Hearing well-educated, liberated, professional women bitch about not getting enough money for not doing any work is just mind numbing.

It should be something determined by the employer and employee for their mutual benefits. It should not be mandated solely for the benefit of the employee.

Would the employee owe restitution if she decides not to return to work for the employer at the end of the paid leave?
