Apparently, Alaska Legalized Weed 39 Years Ago

Yes, you read that headline right. In 1975, the Alaska Supreme Court ruled in Ravin v. State that the right to possess, cultivate and consume small amounts of marijuana in the home was protected under the state Constitution's right to privacy.
As you might imagine, that ruling has faced some opposition over the years, and has been placed into legal limbo from time to time due to various ballot and legislative challenges. But Alaska courts have repeatedly and consistently upheld the notion that Constitutional privacy protections cover the personal possession, cultivation and use of marijuana in Alaska.
"Alaskans can currently lawfully possess up to four ounces of marijuana in their homes for personal use [and cultivate up to 25 plants], but still risk prosecution under existing state and federal statutes," concludes University of Alaska law professor Jason Brandeis in an exhaustive history of Alaska marijuana law (which makes for a pretty interesting read if you're into such things). You could still technically be charged with marijuana possession if caught with less than four ounces in your home, but a court would essentially have to throw the charge out.

Don't we have some posters in AK?

Roger would comment, but he's baked out of his mind right now.

The entire state is a huge sausage fest. If you go there, prepare to lower your standards considerably.

See that stupid arse news reporter didn't need to quit her job and make an arse of herself. If only she knew what she was actually lobbying for.

I thought it was pretty much common knowledge that you could have a small amount of pot in Alaska. I lived there for a time in the 80's and it was pretty much everywhere. It was not sold in stores but you could pretty much buy a dime (I never saw it sold in any other amount while I was there) openly without much hassle.
One other thing that was different was nobody up there smoked joints. It was all small one hitter pipes or bongs. And the potency was FAR higher than anything I'd seen up to that point before I moved from Alabama. They even grew there own pot up there and called it "Matanuska Thunder frick".

I knew a girl who lived in Alaska for a couple of years and said it was awesome because Weed was legal there.
I took her word for it, but when they said Colorado and Oregon or whatever were the 1st 2 states to legalize it I became skeptical.
Now I believe her again.

Yeah sure, it's great that there is legal weed there, but there's also like a 96% chance you're going to get eaten by a bear or fricked by a moose at some point in Alaska.

I was stationed there in the mid-80s and it was legal then. I think you could have up to 1 oz on you and could grow I think 6 plants.

On the TV Show Alaska State Troopers on Nat Geo they write misdemeanor tickets all the time for possession of small quantities of pot in a car. Does the law mean it's only legal to possess in your home and not away from home?

I've had the Matanuska thunder frick. Dopest dope you'll ever smoke not named blue dream.

Washington and Colorado..in fact, Washington legalized it a few days before CO making it the first
When I moved up here 20 years ago we were always told grass was legal in Alaska.
