Had a large mass of condensation in my phone the other night, so I turned it off and stuff it in a bag of race for the majority of the last 2 days. It worked pretty good, and there are only a couple small streaks of it remaining. Will it ever go away or is that part of the screen ruined forever? Fortunately, the function of the phone hasn't been affected.

Do I have to get that done at an Apple store? Rough cost? If the condensation is on the inside of the phone, what will a new screen do?

I'm really not being an arse, but iphone repair places are all over the place. I'm pretty sure that's not just in Houston either.
They could take the screen off and let it dry out more efficiently if your screen is still good. You're very lucky you got water in your phone and it's still working fine.

Are those little repair shops just as good as an official Apple store?

i've replaced about a dozen screens on various phones including iphones.

i used a $35 groupon on an iphone screen recently and was a little concerned but it came out perfect.

also if you're in LA you're in a really humid climate..try a hair dryer or hanging out in an arid climate for a couple days and the last of the moisture will likely evaporate.

eta it got in there so it can get out the same way

We had good luck taking my fiance's 5 to a shop once because she shattered the screen to the point of it would cut you if you tried to use it. They fixed it during her lunch break and was less than $100. I was impressed. I'm sure, as with anything, there are some that are not good. Ask some friends or something...I'm sure someone you know has had an iphone repaired.

Usually cheaper.

I've got my screen fixed long ago (iPhone 4) from one and had no problems, and it took less than 10 minutes and I watched him do it.

Put a passcode on your phone and they won't look at your dick pics or anything.

They're good. And most of the time cheaper than the Apple store. The guys in there fix phones all day. I had to have a cracked screen replaced on a 3GS several years back and they fixed it in about 20 minutes while I waited. Around $60-80 IIRC. I probably could have done it myself with one of those kits from Amazon but I wanted it fixed that day and didn't mind paying a little more for someone who has probably done this hundreds or thousands of times to do it.

If you can work a screwdriver and have even a basic knowledge of electronics then it is fairly simple. I fixed a screen on another phone, one of a family member, who had cracked it. You just have to be careful prying the phone apart. Take it slow and easy and it pops off and you just put the new one in place and put it back together.

eta i used these guys in nashville and they're great.

like TU says, use someone who has done 100s of repairs and they won't scuff your phone replacing.

for the price of peace of mind it ain't worth the DIY to try doing it yourself
