LinkedIn Job Search is nearly useless now...

Until recently, 95% of job postings were made by company representatives with LinkedIn Accounts. It appears that they have recently been allowing 3rd party job boards to cross-publish postings. While you now have more postings, the quality of the jobs posted are way down.
It's basically become another Monster or Career Builder and that's upsetting for what was a great product.

I mentioned linkedin going to shite last year... People started treating it like Facebook and this is just another nail in the coffin.

I find that LinkedIn as a whole is pure shite now.

I've been a big supporter of LinkedIn but they make it harder and harder with every "update".

Doing my job searches this year, I really thought LinkedIn Premium would do a lot more than it did. It was of close to zero use, and the biggest surprise for me this year was learning how good Monster was for generating interest for high quality jobs for people with very specialized skills.
I kinda had this prejudice that Monster was just some hokey crap for people looking for average Joe jobs, but man, you put your resume up there and apply to a few jobs, and you will start getting some random calls out of the blue from recruiters all across the country. It's legit.

I deleted my account, I wasn't looking for a job but had recruiters calling and emailing me weekly

I get messages from LinkedIn weekly with lists of awesome jobs with solid companies. Are you telling me that these are not legit?

I learned the hard way that my TigerDroppings IRL identity could be determined using LinkedIn.
I deleted my LI account as soon as I discovered that.

The crew at RBC got pretty handy with LinkedIn and gathered tons of useful info about competitors. One of the more interesting parts of Flash Boys IMO.

I'm listening to this on tape and it is pretty funny how little the programmers and people making everything happen know what is going on.

The weekly list is fine. Because the only jobs there are aggregated based on your past work experience. But when you have a confusing job title/role like mine you've got to search yourself. And that search process is now a bitch.

I'll keep it simple and say that I have had a lot of success from LI. No serious complaints.

The jobs they always send me have nothing to do with my field

I have as well. This is a recent change in job searching. Especially for someone like me who can't narrow down the search by keyword.
I used to be able to search via experience level but now that's even moot because a cashier at Dollar General is apparently a "Mid-Senior Level" position.

Garbage. I tried the 1 month free during my job search. Overrated in every aspect.
The calls I got were 3rd party companies masquerading as company reps. Really they just screen folks.

I never used the premium version.
The only complaints I have is that my current company was 40% of the results that popped up. Why would I want to see job opportunities at my current job...?
I ended up landing a position solely from LinkedIn and got callbacks on about 60-70% of the resumes I submitted.

Its far better for keeping tabs of your network than job searching IMO

Yeah. It may have been unrealistic for me to have expected LinkedIn to offer better opportunities for breaking into a new field, when it's really designed more for mid-level people to make moves during the growth phase of their careers.
For people just starting out, and for very senior people who already know most of their important contacts personally, it's not as good of a career tool.
My main surprise was seeing how good of a tool Monster was for letting you crack into a new field. I never would have thought that before this year.
