Chip Kelly quote from 2011

In a conversation about offensive scheming with Urban Meyer while Chip was at Oregon he said "If we had a group of guys who could line up in the power I and run the power I, we would do it"
if you look back at our best teams in recent years (2003,2007,2011) they all had one thing in common- a rock solid defense. That's something we didn't have last year and certainly don't have this year. Defenses win championships and if we're giving up 300+ yards on the GROUND it doesn't matter what kind of playcalling we have or who is playing QB, we won't win in this league. I bring up the Chip Kelly quote because a lot of people on here (myself included) are quick to blame the offensive scheme every time we lose but if you've got the size up front and a stable of talented backs, the classic ground and pound game can get consistent yards with little risk of turnovers. Lots of teams would run that offense if they could. If you don't believe me, go back and watch the 2003 BCSNCG, Virginia tech and florida in 07, Oregon and pretty much every other game in 2011, etc. Nothing fancy about our offense those years. My point: we have much bigger issues right now than the power I and the quarterback debate.

The spread is easy to run and easy to recruit for. It's also "new" and hip and looks pretty.
The spread isn't real football.

Think about what you're saying, though. If our offense was balanced out by the defense, there may come a time when the offense has to balance out the defense.
It's about being honest about your weaknesses and doing what you can to minimize it.
Case in point: When Pruitt was D-coordinator at FSU last year, he realized the scheme he wanted to implement wasn't working. Sure, they got through their cupcakes, but when they got to BC, they almost lost. FSU's D really shite the bed. He didn't try to fit a square peg in a round hole, he changed the scheme. Their defense played fantastic the rest of the way.

i have no problem with the power I. we just run it too much. I know our defense sucks, but the coaches job is to win games, and for us to do that we are going to have to just out score people and hope the d can get a couple of stops here and there like they did against state.

While I agree with you to an extent. 2 TEs and 2 Rbs handcuffs the quarterback with only one threat to receive the ball on a pass. Makes us very predictable. That on top of the fact that we don't have power I guys. We have spread guys. Harris nor Jennings took snaps under center in HS. All shotgun. Why not play to their strengths?

Don't really know what your point is?? I don't think Chip Kelly wants to run the power I or he would recruit players that could, and the power I isn't an offense system or scheme it's just one formation. If Oregon had LSU's defense then they would have gone to the National Championship game and they would not have gotten f-ed up the a on national tv by Alabama and that dude would have never been teabagged off Bourbon St.

Was also said when the forward pass was implemented into the game. The game evolves, the strategy to it should as well.

We're not good enough on the o-line. The system works, it always has and it always will. You just need good o-line play. Everything is upgraded on the offensive side of the ball with a competent o-line.

I have no issue with the concept unless it's not working
Running all 4 plays from the 2 yard line and gaining zilch, is an issue.
Why not throw a few play-actions, tosses to RB's & TE's, bootlegs, etc in occassionally??

no one is saying you have to run spread. the point is you can't run power i when there is no threat or even the ability to throw out of it successfully. Our line obviously isn't good enough to run exclusively into staked boxes.

I don't follow the Eagles, but how often does he line up in the power I with them? Any NFL team should have the personnel to do so

I agree for the most part
The problem I have is the same problem I've had Les' whole career. The defense DIDN'T stop MSU and the power I WASN'T working. And not a single adjustment was made...well, until they were down 4 scores
Basically, I'm tired of seeing the toss dive in to a 9 man box

Except it is real football and is the only thing that can beat Bama

I honestly believe yall are taking that quote the wrong way. I think chip is trying to say that you must be able to adapt to your talent and maximize that talent. I honestly don't believe chip wants to sit in the I and pound the rock all game. He's about getting his guys the ball in space
As for LSUs situation I really don't want to comment. Will just frustrate me and I will type a wall of text that no one will read
Good day friends
