Thank you sir for the responses. I wasn't trying to derail the thread but the entire sector has had me interested for a bit. I have sdrl on watch now too.

Egg, I've seen you make some crazy penny picks that turn into multi baggers overnight....you got a favorite in the space?

I dipped my toe into sdrl yesterday. If it follows my history of catching falling knives then the yield should be up to around 30-40% soon. Or cut to zero....

I was thinking about purchasing myself. How long do you hold for is the question? Days, months, years. I'm thinking years.

14.24% yield? I'm holding until that changes.

Currently trading at 22.70 with a P/E of 2.66 and a dividend of 17.62% and the RSI is at 19. I am going to have to jump on this or EXXI sooner or later. Or at least go with XOM or BP. This is getting absurd.

Added more at $23.50. Have a market order at $22.00, which I missed this morning by a penny, but expect to be filled soon if the last two months is any indication.

Are y'all long on sdrl, or is this something you have to keep an eye on?

If/when I buy, I will be long....or at least until the ridiculous dividend goes away.

I missed the boat when it was $22.50 this morning so I will likely sit back and hope we have a couple more down days in the market. I want it around $22.50 now that I missed out on that number

I was reading an article on Seeking Alpha this morning suggesting that the dividend should be cut in half.

Article here

quote:

The market is basically pricing in a dividend cut given the curent yield of 17.5%. Frankly, I believe it would be in the best interest of SDRL shareholders for management to cut the dividend by at least 50%. A 50% cut would still leave investors with a juicy 8.75% yield, but it would save the company about $900 million. Seadrill can use these savings to fund part of its growth plan and limit the amount of debt it has to issue. Honestly, I think an elimination of the dividend would be best, but that would probably outrage shareholders. With the firm already highly levered, any effort to limit incremental debt is a wise one. Unfortunately, it does not seem that management wants to alter its financially aggressive policy.

What's your reasoning for wanting to get in at 22.5?

Nothing in particular other than I'm sad I missed it this morning.

Pulled the trigger at 22 last month and it went up around $25.

Today's drop has been substantial

I like SDRL, but would wait to buy until after the (seemingly inevitable) dividend cut is announced. Though essentially priced in already, it seems as though the bottom is still lower.

I'm driving right now but I read a couple articles where the dividend is set until 2016. Hell, even cutting in half wouldn't make me mad- I'll take a 8.75% payout any day.

An announcement of the divided cut would help the stock price, not hurt it.
