Been playing the guitar for about 3 years now, I've jammed with friends many times but never in a public setting. I play mostly blues/blues rock. Any tips for someone going to play their first blues jam? TIA

It's better to play no note than a wrong note. It's better to play the wrong note in rhythm than the right note out of rhythm.

So it's best to play no note in rhythm - got it

Play within yourself and do not overplay!

2-3 note lines can be melodic, can use call and response like that.

Blues jam folks dont care to hear a billion notes a second or that you can run sequences like a mad man.

Keep it simple and soak it in, dont be intimidated. If ya hit a sour note, remember ya only a half step away from a good one, act like ya were using a chromatic!

Best of Luck and on top of it all HAVE FUN!

Or as an old timer taught me, you hit a wrong note, hit it again, they will think you did it on purpose!

Classic blues tip: If you hit a wrong note, hit it twice and no one will notice.

Ive been playing live for many years and the absolute no.1 piece of advice I can give you is play with your heart and not your head. You will be able to feel what the right notes are if you stay true to your heart. If you let your hands express what your heart is saying, the audience will be able to feel it. Also, dont be afraid to put on a show.

Other notes, but not nearly as important as above.
-bring at least one proven backup cable.
-bring at least one backup tube (if playing through a tube amp)
-bring a pack of 9V batteries (they will be used somehow)
-duct tape

You would think it would not need to be said, but I will add extra strings to the list. For some reason bass players are the worst for never have extra strings.

Listen to what others are playing. Let your own playing build. You don't have to go for it all at once.

he has a great blues jam here (until he turns on the distortion lol). try and land on those notes that you dont think will work. semi tone bends are a huge +++ if pulled off correctly
