His public advertising/marketing-driven persona is almost as gratuitous and phony as Lance Armstrong's was a decade ago.
But we all know him and love him because he did it the right way and is a Great American Role Model. Yeah, just like we all knew and loved Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan.
You know the only time he EVER got out the limo before a Yankees game to hang out with the masses was in a commercial, right?

I am a huge Jeter defender, but all this "great guy" stuff cracks me up. Meanwhile, poor A-Rod (even before the steroids) is vilified for doing 1/5th of the stuff that Jeets gets away with.
OMG! Arod cheated on his girlfriend while on a road trip in Toronto one time! Front page pics and stories of ARod and his ladyfriend plastered all over NY POST the next morning! Meanwhile, that's called a "boring Tuesday night" for Jeter.

Well the fanboys out there watch these commercials and think they know the "real" Derek Jeter and then think he deserves "respect" when all this really is is a big media circle-jerk so they can capitalize off the persona they created.
Whose depiction is more accurate? It is likely the most accurate scenario has elements of both.
