I like it. Jeff's songwriting has always been the constant for Wilco, and it's no different for this album.
I was a little skeptical about Jeff's kid playing the drums, but he is perfect, and obviously extremely talented, and adds sort of an edgy dimension to Jeff's songwriting, much like his bandmates in Wilco.
I'm not all the way through it, because it has twenty songs, but so far, so good. Certainly worth listening to.
For my taste, 2014 hasn't been a good year for album releases, so I was really anticipating this one, and it certainly hasn't disappointed.

I hope to pick it up over the weekend... I believe I listened to the first cut that was leaked awhile back, but none of the others...
I have been a Tweedy fan since Uncle Tupelo, Wilco's inception and beyond... but Ive been pretty underwhelmed by the last couple of Wilco records... I still love them live, though...

I really like the first 5-6 songs, but the back end of the album isnt as strong imo. The songs already sound better live.

It makes for good music to listen to while working. Which means is boring and is not interesting enough to draw me in. Let's me concentrate on work.

Overall, I think the songs are pretty "meh".
Nobody Dies Anymore and Fake Fur Coat are probably my favorites. FFC sounds like it could have come from the Mermaid Avenue sessions.

Finally listening.
I like it. Nice, soft melodies. I wish it had a little more bite.

I frickin love Wilco. Probably my favorite band of the '00s, and so I obviously love Tweedy's songwriting and lyrics. But I've always kind of thought that his lyrics are all basically jibberish. I mean what is that dude talking about ever. You know what I mean?

I don't get that either.
If Wilco would have had Nels Cline from the inception, you would be talking all time greatness. Tweedy's songwriting was perfect for what they were, it was so in tune with the time and place that they were producing music. Just ground breaking stuff.
Cline a bit earlier would have given them that extra edge IMO to become the super band they were on the verge of.

Gibberish? They're freaking poetry. Albeit, they're impressionistic at times, but he's a master lyricist, imo.
bible-black predawn has to be one of my favorite descriptors in both song and verse.
quote:
I am an American aquarium drinker
I assassin down the avenue
I'm hiding out in the big city blinking
What was I thinking when I let go of you?
Let's forget about the tongue-tied lightning
Let's undress just like cross-eyed strangers
This is not a joke, so please stop smiling
What was I thinking when I said it didn't hurt?
I want to glide through those brown eyes dreaming
Take it from the inside, baby hold on tight
You were so right when you said that I've been drinking
What was I thinking when I said good night?
I want to hold you in the Bible-black predawn
You're quite a quiet domino, bury me now
Take off your Band-Aid because I don't believe in touchdowns
What was I thinking when I said hello?
I'd always thought that if I held you tightly
You'd always love me like you did back then
Then I fell asleep and the city kept blinking
What was I thinking when I let you back in?
I am trying to break your heart
I am trying to break your heart
But still I'd be lying if I said it wasn't easy
I am trying to break your heart
Disposable Dixie-cup drinking
I assassin down the avenue
I'm hiding out in the big city blinking
What was I thinking when I let go of you?
loves you
I'm the man who loves you
