What position do you watch while the ball is in play?

I always notice these idiots around me screaming "THROW THE frickING BALL" during coverage sacks or "#_ was WIDE OPEN" when he's covered in zone coverage and then calling for the coaches head, etc.

When the ball is snapped, are you watching the QB, Defense, WR's, OL, RB? I always find myself watching the WR's just to see the routes and separation off of the line.

Whether running or passing, I watch the line first to see if the play will even work...

I don't follow the ball too closely, really. Obviously I know where it is but I'm not following the guy carrying it. If it's a pass play, I'm staring at the secondary. If it's a run, the front seven.

This. I watch the line for a couple of seconds then shift towards the secondary.

Usually with legs crossed (ankle to knee - not knee to knee) with a beer in left hand and remote in right.

And usually the ball on the live feed, and QB and line on replay if there is one.

I think this thread will tell us who played a little and who didn't.

I never even started, and I wasn't very good, but I loved watching film and the x's and o's in high school

Well it depends on if I'm watching on TV or in person. My eyes are all over the field when I'm in person. Just depends on the type of play. On TV, I generally follow the ball and areas around it. I obviously can't see what I need to see on TV unless it's on the replay.

Also, I tend to watch the trenches when seeing the replays of the games.

I watch the whole thing. I just kind of stare at nothing in particular and watch the whole play.

Ok, not really. I mostly watch where the ball is. But if I'm interested in how a certain player or group of players is playing I will watch them. So I change it up a little.

Maybe, maybe not. I played and then coached HS football for 4 years and still mostly watch the ball when I watch LSU play.

I only played two years in high school but I had other extracurricular stuff I was more interested in. I didn't even dress for most games, but I practiced. Weird set up.

But yeah, in a really exciting game I do tend to just watch the guy with the ball.

I coach offense for a high school football team (I coached at U-High for two years, now I am in GA) so I typically watch several things at once. Before the play I see how the linebackers and safety are lined up. When the ball is hiked, I scan the OL to see if we are going to get the play going. Then I try and look through the WRs/TEs if it is a pass, and see if there is a window somewhere.

It is so fast, but makes me appreciate QBs even more because they have to do this every play, and if they make a mistake, it hurts.

Depends on the situation, but mostly the D-line first then shift to the safeties pre snap. Then identify the mike (when we are on offense). When we are on D I like to also check alignment of the defensive front then see what communication goes on between their o-line and qb's and receivers and how we adjust and pick up any giveaways as to where the play is headed and discover tendencies.
