Taking a cruise out of Galveston and was considering buying the on board ultimate drink package. Anyone ever bought this? Is it worth the price? How is Norwegian in general. This will be my first cruise on them.

Better than Carnival

Drinks are about $6/beer, $10/ mixed drink on board. Figure out for yourself if you'd drink enough to be worth it.

What ship is this one?

Norwegian is decent in my opinion. Not great, but a step above Carnival IMO. Always snuck my booze in or just bought the frozen drinks, so no help on the beverage plan.

Norwegian upcharges for everything. If you don't plan on eating the buffet every night, be prepared to pay for your dinners.

Are you sure the cruise is out of Galveston? I read that Norwegian is sailing out of Houston.

If you plan on drinking soda do it. If you don't drink soda just go with what's there. Norwegian was great when we went. Hit up their daily drink specials.

You are allowed to bring a couple bottles of wine on board. I purchased 3 bottles, dumped the wine and refilled the bottles with Jack Daniels colored purple with food coloring and recorked and refoiled with corks and foils bought on Amazon. Orange juice,Apple juice, water and coffee is free at breakfast, lemonade, sweet tea and water are free at lunch and dinner. Soft drinks, alcohol and beer must be purchased.

Their dinning room food is subpar the first night to encourage you to eat at their signature restaurants. They have "Free style dinning," but you will likely wait for a table during peak hours. However, they do offer the option of sharing a table with other guests to have you seated faster. The food is always good in the buffet if you don't mind eating amongst buffalo.

Overall I have had great experiences with Norwegian. Be sure to tip the poolside wait staff really well the first day. They often also work the shows and other events, and will remember you very quickly.

I brought a few bottles of water filled with vodka in my carry on bag but it wasn't a Norwegian cruise.

i just took a norwegian cruise and paid for the upgraded food package. i really liked their specialty restaurant options and the food was way better than the buffet and cafe. i didn't even bother trying the regular restaurant, so i can't comment on it's quality.

The main dining room is legit, but it's not as good as it once was. They are trying to push more to upgrade to the specialty restaurants. Cagney's has an excellent filet.

I smuggled rum onto the ship in rum runners without a problem. I also carried on a 12 pack of cokes and sprites in my luggage, and I'm sure they were visible, but they really don't mind if you bring on sodas.

We've cruised Norwegian 7 day out of N.O., 4 of the last 5 years, and they are really a good bang for the buck. I've got 2 kids that are pre-teens that cruise with us, and it's one vacation that everybody really enjoys.

cagney's was great. i also liked the tepenyaki a lot. their other specialty restaurants are french, italian, brazilian steakhouse(churrascaria where they bring skewers of meat) and chinese.

My wife and I just got off the last Alaska cruise of the season and we were hugely disappointed. Norwegian has gone WAY downhill.

The food was really mediocre. Cagneys and Chin Chin flat-out sucked arse. Moderno (the Brazilian one) and La Cucina were the only signature restaurants really worth a damn.

The buffet had a few things worth eating, but for breakfast and lunch we very quickly just gravitated to Tsars Palace and stayed there.
