Its pretty clear after that performance Saturday night a lot of changes need to be made. From my view point, that was Miles 2nd worst loss in his lsu career (the first obviously being the nc game against bama). With the talent lsu brings in every year a HOME loss against state is just not acceptable.

Evaluation so far:
Weaknesses
-O line: plain and simple cant block and cant push
-QB: Jennings has a weak arm with no vision down field or progression. Harris is the future
-DT: All talk this offseason about Herron, bain, gilmore... the guys playing now just cant stop the run
-Welter: pretty obvious, not an sec talent
-Martin: Out of position all the time and cant wrap up tackles.

Strengths
-Skill Players: WR & RB groups are really talented but are held back by jennings/Oline play
-CBs:White and Robinson are lock down, Thomas and Collins have been a pleasant surprise this year.

How to approach the future:
offense- Switching completely to the spread on offense isnt realistic but they need to open up the playbook a LOT. LSU is crazy predictable and running the I Form just shouldnt be and option unless its a short yardage/goal line play. Give Brandon Harris the ball and let him gain experience. He out talents Jennings in every category and should have been the starter from week 1. Its pretty obvious too that skill players like Fournette and Dupre prefer playing with Harris so let him rip.

Defense-Start Beckwith at MLB. Start Adams at S. DT is a tough spot for us but chavis needs to start dialing up some unpredictable calls to get pressure cause our front four arent cutting it. Maybe even consider running a 3-4 with Debo-Beckwith-Garrett-Kwon would be a better option. At this point it couldnt hurt to try.I know Martins a big communicator on the D but he is just not good. Out of position constantly and cant tackle. Adams is a hard hitter and reminds me a lot of eric reid. Throw Jefferson and Thomas in there on passing downs and the D could improve.

I lost all faith in Miles after the Bama NC game, but if he can turn things around after that loss this week he would gain back a small amount of my respect. If Jennings and Welter start vs NMS then this post is fornot and maybe we should reconsider who the head coach should be. One things for certain, changes need to be made and Miles cant just win off of talent this year.

Could you please clarify the bolded portions?

Agree with most of your post but Harris was not ready to start week 1. I agree he should start the rest of the season and making a bowl game should be his goal. As far as opening up the playbook a lot, as you suggested, will not happen with Harris as his knowledge of the playbook is limited. Furthermore, playing a 180 lb QB behind a cluless OLine in SEC play is asking for trouble and his only backup is a benched and banished by the fanbase Anthony Jennings.

Best case scenario for the future of the program is for Harris to learn on the job this year and our defense comes around to get us to 7-8 wins. After the season Miles should be spending his second straight offseason looking for an offensive line coach.

The bold is pretty obvious.

That 2008 season was awful as a whole

And the only thing I based Harris starting week one from was his performance in the spring game. I know it's not much but it's pretty obvious how much he out talents Jennings. He's a small guy but he might of settled down in the second half of the wisonsin game and showed what he had to offer.

Sorry about this brief reply but I'm on my phone at work

Bold is extremely obvious - not sure what needs to be explained.

Same guys that made a 1600 yd rusher, a 3500 yd passer, and two 1000 yd recievers last season so I would not agree with you on this point. The real issue is that the short passing game is not there so defenses are able to overplay the run. Last season we were able to spread the defense with the passing scheme. AJ has not been able to do that and the coaching staff has not been ready to release BH to try it.

I think that is about to change.

Miles Monday presser hinted at KB playing more. Adams has a lot of physical talent but has made some coverage mistakes as well. In the long run he is the answer.

This loss was worse. Florida won the Ship that year. The worst loss in 08 to me was the Ole Miss game.

No

That 08 FLA team was one of the best in the BCS era.

Awesome post
Support Miles but
Welter would sit the bench at McNeese
Your evaluation at the QB position is right on but you left off his pocket awareness , he panics in the pocket. It showed up in the bowl game and I thought he stayed in the pocket too long and should have scrambled. Now I see he is lost in the pocket

I'm anything but sold on Grimes, it seems our o-line has taken a step or two backwards.

The future will be exactly as it has always been under miles. Minimal to no changes with a few tweaks. It will be the same old dumb shite. Guarantee it.

Grimes has evidently tried to reinvent the wheel and LSU OL can't roll with it.
