ugh

I don't know what I hate more, captain munnerlyn or the fact that he's right.

the protection of the qb is over the top. drew was still churning forward, then just gave up and munnerlyn just flipped him over. It wasn't intentional. It was an exciting play.

I still like that drew was pissed and either way you slice it, captain fricked up. Don't piss off drew.

This! And the whistle hadn't blown dead yet. So what do you want Cap'n to do? Just let go?

Had the roles been reversed, you guys would be saying the same thing I am. I don't give a crap what any of you say, you would...

Just because you think that they protect QBs too much, doesn't make him right. It's still against the rules to suplex the QB.

I really don't see how he's right. Maybe in the NFL 20 years ago, but we all are aware of the rule changes and the protection for QBs...especially marketable ones like Brees.

The truth is he didn't have to slam Brees to the ground. Brees was sacked and not going anywhere. Hell, probably wait a second and the refs would be blowing the play dead.

But he slammed the QB to the ground when he didn't have to and it's a penalty. Is it a reflection of the NFL under Goodell? Absolutely, but it's still a well known rule.

And for Brees to get a penalty for his flailing spat?

Settle down francis. Suplexing a QB is a foul. Always. Everytime.

You really think the only way Munnerlyn could have gotten him to the ground was suplexing him? He came from Brees' left side, why couldn't he have driven him from that angle, like everyone else who has ever made a tackle in the NFL? If that's the only thing he could have done, then why do we not see more suplexes? Do you think Munnerlyn wrapping up Brees was the first time a defender has ever had someone wrapped up?

I don't know if Drew was upset at Captain or the other guy that helped on the sack. The other guy seemed to have his hand under Drew's facemask. I think that is why Drew went after the other guy and not Captain after the play was over. I think the flag was just on the wrong person.

I agree with the first part, and said the same thing. However, suplexing is a penalty whether people agree with it or not.

I agree it should've been a penalty. I also believe that Drew should've been flagged as well for getting up and pushing/slapping or whatever the hell he did. And it was to the wrong player.

I dunno, it doesn't matter, games over and y'all won.

Seriously. There would be a flag after every single play if that were the case.

as a matter of technicality, he's wrong

I can't unsee 1990-2008

I don't mind that the launching hits have gone away, I could even do away with the suplexes...but now they just penalize you for a big hit. I've seen it in every game where they say "helmet to helmet" or "defenseless receiver" or "unnecessary roughness" but what they really mean is "he tackled too hard"

captain is pulling back and drew is churning forward.

drew gives up, captain pulls back harder. BOOM, suplex

Well he's wrong. Maybe in the old days it was fine, but not anymore. Rules are rules.

I do think the refs get too carried away with protecting QBs, but I also don't think they should be suplexed.

Have you heard them call a penalty for "taking down the QB with force?"

I can't remember when it was, but it was hilarious
