Why Aren't we Going After That Many Big-Named Linemen?

It's clear right now, our lines aren't as good as advertised. We NEED to keep rebuilding at the line. At least to get depth.

somebody said we changed the scheme this year under Grimes. I think we need time to adjust to that scheme. Remember, this is the same OL that opened up huge holes in SEC play last year where both Hill and Magee averaged at 6.9 and 7.3 ypc respectively. It allowed Mett to complete nearly 65% of his passes and nearly 3100 yards passing with 22 TDs in only 12 games.
While they did allow 21 sacks, some of that could be considered on Mett's stone feet. Alabama and UGA was the worst as it seemed they just gave up on the final drives. Eight of his 21 sacks happened in those two games, and about 6 of those 8 happened on 2 drives.
With all that said, their is no way an entire OL can regress like that. I don't care how long you have been following football, a decent OL doesn't just turn to crap the next year after bringing back four out of five starters. It just doesn't. Grimes and Miles need to take most of the blame for these atrocities.

Or maybe our running backs were just that good last year?

I think our biggest problem is not having the studs on defense anymore, especially defensive tackle. From the looks of things, I have to believe our coaches think we missed on most of those guys or else they would be getting a lot more PT

Mae Tehuama is one of the best tackles in the country, Tillery is top 80, and Magee is ranked in the top 247. So there's three pretty big names right there. Womack has offers from us, Bama, Florida, A&M, OM, and Tennessee. So our o-line recruiting is going pretty well.

I think Womack will surprise some people. He's an early enrollee and you can't teach that kind of size.
And yeah, we are on some pretty big names, not to mention Tehuama who one of the best in the country.
Our DT recruiting has been lackluster for quite a while. But we've all known that for the past two years or so. That needs to pick up shortly.

2012 killed us. In 2013 and 2014 we took a combined 7 DT's. Bain, Gilmore, Lacatoure, Herron, Godchaux, LMFAO, and Valentine. So the last two years have been pretty good, these guys just need time to develop. Which is why we're recruiting Jonathan Taylor, a beast of DT similar in build to Mike Brockers, but who has some serious issues.

agreed that the problem is we only took one dl in 2012. hunter. that should never, ever happen. but look we only have 1 dl commit this year so far. lm has to call haley out on this. orgeron will be at LSU next year.

Don't be dumb. We are getting zero push at the line. Go on youtube and look at Hill vs UF and which the holes and blocking he got. It was beautiful.

Too many red flags. Do not want.

Brick leaving is pretty much a given, but I think Peveto takes over DL responsibilities

Hopefully we can bring back Tepper to coach linebackers too.

It was whispered last year that some of the freshman defensive lineman that came in definitely didn't live up to expectations (even as freshman, and that is really starting to bear out this year.
Unfortunately, it looks like our state is going through a drought in terms of producing these great lineman, and going out of state is always dicey because everyone wants these great lineman. Too bad trading isn't allowed in college, we could trade some of skill guys that are so plentiful for some big uglies.

I don't buy it that its Bricks Fault.
There has been too much success here on the D line. Not to mention we have Frank Wilson.
This should be an opportunity for Freshman to come in and be a part of a rotation right a way.

We need to get Julian Rochester. Dude is a frickin beast at 6'5 280. He still has another year to put on weight if needed being he's a junior.

You Miss the point. The passing game doesnt allow 10 defenders in the Box. Therefore giving Olinemen to block one on one instead of trying to block more than 1 defender. Pass game works then running game works . Thats why last year was so fun!
