Why didn't we have a safety/LB in the middle of the field all game? We coulda kicke out a lineman and put an extra DB on the field. Our DL sucks so it prolly wouldn't matter if we took one of them out. At least that's my thinking. But on Prescotts long run we had nobody in the middle of the field.

I was pissed about that very thing myself. There were a few other times before that that I saw we appeared to have no backers and I told my son that Prescot could just run a QB draw and no one would be there. Sure enough it happened later in the game. It had to be an alignment issue. Chavis would never line us up in a 5-0 defense!

fricking this..

on the long td run by prescott, welter was moving himself and the olb to the weakside....entire middle of the field open (on the fricking strong side)...prescott takes off

I sat and pointed out welter every play on one of their long drives. Every play he got blocked easily to the outside or either missed a tackle. It was sad

Pretty sure we played a lot of 0 coverage aka man to man on the outside with blutzing MLB and cb maybe a safety blitz.

So in this situation if you break a run into the secondary the cb playing near the sidelines have to make plays which means big yardage.

Isn't the postion called the Middle LB because they play in th damned middle? Not as a OLB? Did Chavis call this alignment or did the players just go wherever they wanted? Anyone who studied Mullen would have recognized that on 3rd and short, his tendancy is to run the QB up the gut. Why we had no LBs in the middle is a damned good question.

{I sat and pointed out welter every play on one of their long drives. Every play he got blocked easily to the outside or either missed a tackle. It was sad}

Bingo. Welter wants no part of contact. Every time MSU ran the option read, DJ slides out of his gap (avoids contact and the duty of stuffing his own lane), and the runner would just cut right back to the middle, running right through the area he just vacated.

The saints finally woke up with Patrick Robinson.
I still don't see how Welter holds a starting spot on this defense. The Chief is killing us by his choice of of starting MLB.

Welter is the weakest link. This is a huge problem, because the middle of the field is there for any team who wants to visit it.

Over the past two seasons,
Georgia, Bama, Ole Miss, now MSU, all smashed it up the middle. At the starter, who now averages 1.64 solo tackles a game, on over 17 games as a starter.

Lawd help me understand why Beckwidth and Garrett remain on the sidelines, as Welter continues to have absolutely zero impact, on any game. Please stop blaming the D-line. The man in the middle is going to cost us big time this year if we don't update our depth chart.

P.S.
Of course, I'm more than prepared for the Welter lovers to bash me. Whatever.... aside from Welter, the decision to play Jennings over Harris, still boggles the mind (and has cost us a game). Jennings is way to indecisive in the pocket. He can through the hell out of a fade, but anything that calls for more than one read, and he gives me flash backs of Jordan Jefferson. Thinking too much instead of just letting it fly.

The play calling was a nightmare. Once again, we have to be down by multiple scores before we put 3 wideouts on the field. Its pretty maddening to say the least.

The quote of the year came from my wife as she was talking to her friend on the phone.

"I'm a 30 year old pregnant woman who has never played a down of football, and I know what play you are running. Imagine what the coach who gets paid to stop you must be thinking."

When talking about LSU's ridiculously predictable, and ineffective offense.

As soon as the ball was snapped Jennings drew a bead on TD. The fakes caused no one on the defense to budge. Several times he throws to a double teamed TD while other receivers were open.

Earlier comments regarding confusion on offense, indecisiveness etc., was clear. But for many of the key players this was their first start against an SEC team. It's just different.

Welter was in the middle and ran himself right out of every damn play. He was lost in O linemen all damn night.
