Looking at the lay of the land at this moment and the foreboding prospects of a potential sub-par year, some previously unasked questions come to the fore:

1) How are any players that opted to stay for this year feeling now about their choice?
2) How might those players draft stock be affected in real dollars and location in the draft?
3) What plausible motifs do the LSU coaches now use to compel top-tier prospects to come join the party, other than the standard "We need you now, you can play now." approach? A "defeater" in the debate is the persistently stubborn offensive philosophy and play calling, as even if recruits believe they can walk in and walk on the field from day 1, the plays are the plays & the schemes the schemes, stubbornly.
4) How does Fournette's heisman pose now get perceived?
5) How does Magee feel right now, all things considered?
6) Who, if anyone, has the relationship with Miles and actually COULD address the universally-recognized redundant offensive play calling?
7) Anyone here want to defend the notion that Saban's program experiences the same perennial vicissitudes in performance that Miles's program does? That is, who would argue that AL suffers similarly wide swings in the quality of recruiting cycles all the way through to game performance? ...
There is a constancy in quality 2 states over in AL that LSU does NOT measure up to. Why is that?
8) Lastly, in a word, for the prospects in attendance, did last nights game, ONE GAME mind you, make/break anyone's decision?

I would appreciate the serious and contemplative thoughts of those that have a greater insight than myself.

I have a question about your first question? Who had better options other than staying?

7. You can't compare Saban and Miles. No matter what people think of Saban, he is a great coach and strategist who plans out every detail. Miles still has problems managing timeouts and knowing what down it is.

1-2. I don't know that the players who stayed were ready for the NFL.

3. I think Miles is going to have problems recruiting top QB's and WR's. Other than that, I'm not sure. If I had a top football prospect as a son,I would steer him away from LSU.
4. Fournette is 18 year's old and did something sily. He gets a pass. It does indicate the lack of discipline on the team.
5. No idea.
6. NO ONE! He's not going to change EVER!
8. IDK.

Some of these aren't really simple questions

1) Like they should step up and be leaders (at least that's what I hope)

2) Very little

3) It depends on the recruit, but early playing time and putting players in the NFL makes an easy sell...even though it may not be what's best for the program.

4) Dumb, just like it was before

5) I don't know

6) I don't know

7) No, Saban is a better coach...I'm not sure why anyone would refute this

8) No, it doesn't. LSU has had the same gameplan for years with several of these shite their pants games thrown in, yet they still pull in top recruits.

1 Only player is Collins. As far as I know, his draft stock hasn't taken a hit.
2 He'll be fine. 1st rounder
3 Best competition. Best atmosphere (when we win). More NFL players than any other school. Play for championships every year.
4 Same as before. Young guy got too excited
5 Fine. He'll make a roster next year.
6 His OC and best man from his wedding
7 Replace McElroy with McCarron with a 5th year senior. Replace Flynn with JJ... great QB in Mett... with a true sophomore
8 Only if they were never seriously considering us

Wil, your #3 is concerning and frankly how I see these repetitive issues having a snowball effect. Poor decisions produce poor(embarrassing) national TV results. So, recruits don't come. So, talent wanes. Ergo, more poor embarrassing national TV results. I just hope we don't end up back in the curly Hallman days, as I was a faithful fan back then.

I don't live and breathe LSU football but my family and kids have a great family night when LSU plays. It's just disheartening to keep seeing the same well-documented issues NEVER rectified. The examples are almost innumerable. Just one? Time management. What's up with a time out with .03 seconds before the half?

And are we really to believe Miles had the forsight to call this so personnel could get to the locker room early? Yeah right. Reference? October 2010 UT end of game and Miles subsequent lying about what he was yelling for Jefferson to do.

Chilge, your 3rd response...substitute AL in the question and your answer is the same, relatively, without all the intangibles of the Hatter.

This is why, imo, we are constantly out-recruited by Saban and they often steal our states talent.

Oh and uh...a few more recent championship games and titles!

They got Tony Brown and Landon Collins... otherwise I don't see them "stealing" recruits

Check the numbers. LSU has more active players than anyone in college football. And don't know what to tell you if you think they rival our game day atmosphere

On top of that Louisiana produces more D-1 and NFL talent than Alabama and LSU is the only major school in LA. NO EXCUSES to be behind BOTH of those schools.

Alabama has 40 and LSU 41 in NFL, if I read ESPN correctly. Negligible difference.

Totally agree about Death Valley. Been there many times and no place like it.

Don't limit the lost recruits to just AL.

My point was simple and a fair question to be asked I think. LSU/Miles/Coaches have demonstrably shown either the inability or incapacity to correct the most glaring of shortcomings in coaching and game play. LSU's mystique is not always positive, as their are negatives in its persona as well. Hence, the monicker "mad hatter."

And last night these issues, not all of them mind you, were on full display in prime time. With a bevy of potential prospects soaking ALL of it in, not only the atmosphere, but the more tangible variables to them as players, I.e. the game performance itself, I simply wonder the future impact nights like last night will have on recruiting. I says nights plural as I ask further, do you think we've seen the last of such things?

I imagine you're saying no!

3. re: 'what motifs'
A motif is a decorative design or pattern. In some neighborhoods it means 'additional teeth.'

I only did because you did. But this works both ways. Don't think that Florida wasn't recruiting Patrick Peterson.. Texas wasn't recruiting Jamal Adams... Alabama wasn't recruiting Kwon Alexander...

LSU gets a large chunk of their heralded players from OOS.

You'll have to specify. There were eight of them.

LSU/Miles/Coaches have demonstrably shown either the inability or incapacity to correct the most glaring of shortcomings in coaching and game play.

Until you give me an example besides last night, that's what I'll assume you're referring to. You won't win many games when you get beat up front on the OL AND the DL.

quote:

To be honest with you, I haven't seen the "Mad Hatter" since 2007. Since then Les has been all about running the ball, limiting mistakes, and playing defense. It's actually the same thing that everyone is currently griping about.

quote:

And last night these issues, not all of them mind you, were on full display in prime time.

Again, the issue was that we got physically beat. Couldn't run the ball. Couldn't stop the run. Couldn't give AJ time to plant his feet and make a throw.

Impossible to tell. It's a young team that's still forging their identity. They'll either crumble from what happened last night... or they'll rally around their 19 pt in 5:00 bid at a comeback, learn from it, build on it, and dominate.

In any event, I don't think there's anyone on this board no matter how loudly they're criticizing the team that doesn't think we're in prime position for the playoffs from 2015-2017 and further.

I actually agree with most of what you are saying. My original question related to how or even if the coaches/recruiters may have to modify some of their draws for the prospects in light of the persistent problems.

I imagine that a quick read of articles on the football coaching, not PR articles but objective print, will no doubt contain very similar words or phrases. Such as:
1) Clock management
2) play calling. Calling the same set of plays over and over again.
3) limited playbook. It's one thing to call the same plays, another to have a limited number of plays altogether. Example, a team can have 100 different plays, but if they are calling the same 20, the playbook is by definition limited. Conversely, a 30 page playbook with the same 20 plays called all the time gives the same results. LSU is not known for calling certain types of plays at all. Compare with say Oregon. I understand players dictate largely what gets called. But would someone say we don't have the speed or talent to pull off some Oregon-type run plays? No I wouldn't. So, I don't think some offensive schemes are even on the table, no matter what's called.

4) Predictability. Honestly, I wonder how hard LSU is to prepare for compared to TaM? Why is that? Again, LSU's mo is ground and pound, as opposed to last year where there was a nice variety of pass/run plays.

How many times are we going to ask to see the tight ends passed to? Or, with the backs we have, why not a wildcat with Fournette and any other back?

Point is, these issues remain a constant. And they travel with the recruiters to every prospects interview. So I just ask, how does the "sell" get enough affected by the reminders of these issues in games like last night.
