At what point does a sporting event becomes boring?

Last night's NFL game as an example. When do you just say forget it and start channel surfing?
For me it is usually when it becomes a mockery.
At times the Baylor UW Alamo Bowl game became that and usually any Red Sox Yankees game, they seem to move so slow and you can catch up to it later.
ETA: I edited the title because my grammar was horrific in original title.

Blowouts like last night and the superbowl. I love me some NFL and I watched something else.

When I have to go to the event in person, I sit down and realize I would much rather be at home or bar watching it on TV.

When my team is not winning...

Any shitty non conference game in the les miles era sans the Sam Houston state game. Les just pounds the ball into the ground for 4 quarters.

When the outcome is pretty much assured and there's nothing in particular to interest me in the actual goings-on of the game (such as a player going for a record, watching new guys develop for my team, etc).

I can hardly stomach NFL games period right now. I just have so much apathy.
went running instead of watching the first half of the Dallas game on Sunday. they were up 16-0 at half and I barely watched any of the 2nd half--watched the astros game instead. I certainly don't watch other NFL games. would rather watch college FB or baseball or HGTV to be honest.

I think there is a pseudo bell curve in blowouts in the NFL or in college between ranked teams.
14-0 is still pretty good
21-0 you might start scrambling for a remote
28-0 change the channel
35-0 insult the losing team and then go back to what you're watching
42-0/49-0 check how much time is left and guess the final score
56-0 holy crap, will they break 60?

For MLB? After a week into the season. They really need to adjust their schedule to be completely done by the time football starts.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who turned off that Baylor-Washington Alamo Bowl
Everyone was like "Oh such a good and exciting game!" but to me it was a travesty and you said it - mockery of football

Good point. If the game gets bad enough, it turns into a train wreck effect, when you want to keep watching just to see how bad it turns out.

I'm probably spoiled but honestly, Oregon games against the scrub/FCS OOC teams we schedule where starters don't even see the field after halftime. I was out of the country for our opener against South Dakota and didn't even bother checking the box score until the following day.

quote:That's how I felt about Baylor-WVU a couple of years ago. The announcers were jizzing all over themselves about how "exciting" the game was, but I frankly found it unwatchable and an embarrassment to the sport. Final score was 117-109, I believe.

This. My team is doing well and I find myself just not being that interested.
I'd rather watch a game like the Auburn KSU game than just about any NFL game any day of the week.

It was 2 offenses executing at a very high level. Nothing wrong with that.
