As much as the pundits are hyping this game and Dak Prescott. If Miss St. is the trendy upset pick for the weekend - why aren't they even ranked?

They weren't ranked last year, nor in preseason and they haven't beaten or played anyone as of yet.

Same reason other teams aren't ranked. You gotta beat ranked teams to get any credit and they never do that.

They are ranked 28th and will probably be ranked 38th after this week.

Because it is the consensus of opinion of the various pollsters that there are at least 25 teams better than MSU.

Because ranked teams in this conference don't play road games at South Alabama.

Pollsters are tired of being sucked into the false sense of hope for State year after year.

This.

And they finished 7-6 last year. And really shouldn't have even gone to a bowl game

You people really don't know how the media works. We go through this every year. It's their job to sell it as a must see game. They have to hype it to get the eyeballs. If everyone says it will be an LSU blowout, no one watches except LSU fans.

I'd say this about sums it up.

But, they are a pretty good team. Much better than a lot of the State teams from the past decade or so.

Partly because they haven't played anyone and partly because the rankings system is flawed. There are not 25 teams out there better than MSU, but most pollsters don't truly rank the teams based on how good they are, they base it on predictions and current rankings. I've heard Herbstreit and others explain their rankings of certain teams and say point blank that they have this team or that team higher or lower based on their schedule. Ohio State was as high as they were in preseason in large part because everyone expected them to just blow through that easy Big 10 schedule. Moo State, on the other hand, is in the SEC West where every other team except Arkansas is in the top 10. Going .500 in conference would be a great year for them.

They haven't beat a ranked opponent in 2 years. Yet they are going to come into DV and beat LSU.

Just saying...if you think Miss St. is good enough to beat LSU....On the road. At night. In Tiger Stadium. You would think they'd be getting more respect in the polls.
