Paraphrase quote from book 1984. True or false?
Posted by Revelator on 9/19/14 at 1:08 am00
quote:
Men in the mass are frail cowardly creatures who can not endure liberty or face the truth, and must be ruled over and systematically deceived by others who are stronger than themselves. The choice for mankind lay between freedom and happiness, and that, for the great bulk of mankind, happiness is better.

absolutely true, it's human nature rooted in our tribal beginnings. our groups, whether small organizations or our entire political system are no different than an ant hill or a pack of dogs. it's what we are

this is subjective and not necessarily true

A mass of liberty loving bad mother frickers isn't cowardly. It's just a mass of bad mother frickers.

Most rulers would say T
Most ruled would say F
Most ruled would say F
False, but I do believe this quote:
quote:
The fact is that the average man's love of liberty is nine-tenths imaginary, exactly like his love of sense, justice and truth. He is not actually happy when free; he is uncomfortable, a bit alarmed, and intolerably lonely. Liberty is not a thing for the great masses of men. It is the exclusive possession of a small and disreputable minority, like knowledge, courage and honor. It takes a special sort of man to understand and enjoy liberty — and he is usually an outlaw in democratic societies.

somewhat true and false.
Society has decided it doesn't want unlimited freedom. Because anarchy is dumb.
