Of course i decide to plant mine and now zero rain for next 10 days at least. Never fails, it will rain for 30 days straight and when i need it, it stops. Anyway, what are you guys plans? Bow season opens the first and i like to be out of the woods with the tractor and done planting by then. What do you do? Plant anyway? Wait more more week? So aggervating!

Yes, we are. Couldn't even begin to tell you if it's the best idea or not just the only time we have left.

you don't disc before laying the seed on the ground? if not, do you spray before killing most of the vegetation off before laying seed down?

I am planting this week. I usually disk, then spread seed, then disk again. I come back with fertilizer when I know it will rain.

yes we do.. we have already disk it 8-9 times past few weeks. We always have our dirt ready weeks before we plant

We disk, spread seed and fertilizer at same time and then come back and drag them.

just checking

I wonder if there is a real difference if we fertilize right before a rain instead of just laying the seed and fertilizer down at the same time and covering?

Always plant on or about Oct 1 but I think I will wait a couple extra weeks this year. (Depending on rain forecast). If I'm not mistaken October is the driest month of the year.

I disagree...if Fert stays on surface in dry humid weather with no rain you will lose some N due to volatilization

we don't have luxury to plant at separate times so we are planting in SW Miss this weekend with rye/brassica/clover mix with lime and triple 13 and let whatever happens happen.

we only have a small amount of land anyway. we shall see. hopefully it pours next week.

We will plant last weekend of the month. Chop the ground a week or so ahead of time. Drag after we seed then wait to fertilize after the grass starts to grow. Works for us planting rye and wheat.
