Cunningham's Law
quote:

Cunningham's Law states "the best way to get the right answer on the Internet is not to ask a question, it's to post the wrong answer."

The concept is named after Ward Cunningham, father of the wiki. According to Steven McGeady, the law's author, Wikipedia may be the most well-known demonstration of this law.

Cunningham's Law can be considered the Internet equivalent of the French saying "prêcher le faux pour savoir le vrai" (preach the falsehood to know the truth). In "Duty Calls," xkcd references a similar concept.

So, how often have we seen this on TD? Anyone examples stick out? Maybe debunking ghosts or aliens on moon photos?

I think next time I have a question for the OT, I will actively do this.

Also, next time I read a question that is phrased as such I will consider it suspect.

We on the TD never give wrong answers; it's a beta move. We're always right.

It's very true, because people are always so quick to one up you or prove you wrong.

So if I wanted to know if NOLA or BR was better, I would start a thread that said "BR is so much better than NOLA. I've yet to see an explanation otherwise."

If you asked "Isn't the Station the closest bar to LSU's campus?"

You'd get blasted by the people lining up to tell you about the Chimes...
