I wonder if Scotland vote, particularly if they actually vote to separate, will embolden other countries, territories and even US States like Texas in thoughts of separation?

The NYT had a decent article about this a few days ago.

If they win. No effect in the US because that just doesn't make sense.

But the Basques, Catalonians, and Flemish are probably paying attention to the vote.

Spain stated yesterday that they will block with the full force of the Spanish government any vote for independence, but I'm quite sure Catalonia will go ahead with the vote anyway. I wonder how that would work with the Catalans and Basques on the French side of the border though if such a vote were to go through.

I don't think it would have an effect on the US, even with Puerto Rico; however, we could still see a potential vote in Canada with Quebec.

As someone who more often than not sides with self determination and self-rule AND as someone who's ancestors bled time and time again for Scottish Independence from the crown, I am hoping for vote towards independence.

I would think Northern Ireland would be paying closest attention.

Not in the US but if successful you will see possibilities in Spain, Belgium and Canada.

I'm a little concerned about the effect that a YES vote would have on the supply and price of my favorite single malts.

Don't rock the boat. Vote NO.

I think it was week ago that Barcelona had a 1.8 million people march crying for independence, with a vote on independence planed for November. Spain said they wouldn't approve of any vote without the whole country getting to vote on Catalonia's fate. Otherwise, the Spanish government has said they will do everything possible to stop such a thing from happening.
