Pretty hard math question for a 5th grader

It stomped me for a minute and I am a whiz at math.
You have 6 gallons of liquid in a container. You pour it equally into 4 smaller containers. After filling the 4 containers with equal amounts of liquid, you have 0.3 gallons left over in the original container.
How much did you pour into each container?

(6 - 0.3)/4 = 1.425
Quite simple

6-.3= 5.7
5.7/4= 1.425
5.7/4= 1.425

1.425? I'm really bad at math, so if that's right, you should stop calling yourself a math wiz.

it helps if you convert to the metric system of measurements.

Why is this difficult?

I am probably wrong but....
Wouldnt you subtract 6 -.3 then divide by 4?

4x-.3=6
solve for X
I was wrong. I subtracted at first.
X=1.575
4x+.3=6
So 1.425..
