I am impressed that he knows the Bard
quote:

Vice President Joe Biden drew fire from a prominent Jewish group on Tuesday after he described unscrupulous bankers who prey on servicemen and servicewomen deployed overseas as “Shylocks” — a term frequently condemned as an anti-Semitic caricature.

“Shylock represents the medieval stereotype about Jews and remains an offensive characterization to this day. The Vice President should have been more careful,” Anti-Defamation League National Director Abraham Foxman said.

...

“People would come to him and talk about what was happening to them at home in terms of foreclosures, in terms of bad loans that were being — I mean, these Shylocks who took advantage of these women and men while overseas,” Biden said.

What if a Republican said it?

quote:

“When someone as friendly to the Jewish community and open and tolerant an individual as is Vice President Joe Biden, uses the term 'Shylocked’ to describe unscrupulous moneylenders dealing with service men and women, we see once again how deeply embedded this stereotype about Jews is in society,” Foxman said.

-He said that Obama was a rare black man because he was clean

Biden is nothing more than a racist.

But it's okay for people like Al Sharpton or Spike Lee to refer to blacks that don't tow the line as Uncle Toms. More hypocrisy from the left. Nothing new here.

Not only didn't I know the term Shylock was a slur, but I had never heard of it before. Anyway, hasn't Biden more or less built a reputation as the Charles Barkley of politics, so that when he commits one of his many gaffes, folks just say, "That's just Joe being Joe", as though he's DC's court jester?

You have never heard of "shylock"? He was the primary antagonist in one of Shakespeare's most famous works- The Merchant of Venice.

You don't have a problem with that?

This is dumb. I've never even heard of shylocks before, and I have a personal rule that compels me to use new words in conversation.

I don't feel that I'm missing out on anything by not being up on all the racial slurs of the day.

Congrats on being completely ignorant on one of Shakespeare's masterpieces. Saying you don't know who Shylock is, is like saying you don't know who Hamlet is.

Perhaps he was referring to your lack of knowledge concerning the works of William Shakespeare.

I've read The Merchant of Venice. I'm saying I've never heard of shylocks before. Didn't know that was a thing.

If Michigan fans are snow gumps, does that make Oklahoma fans tornado gumps?

To be safe, only use it in the context of discussing how wrong Biden was for saying it.

Well in the play Shylock is a character, a proper noun. It has since been used as a common noun for a Jewish money lender. I doubt you've read it.
