Jason La Canfora ?@JasonLaCanfora 37s NFLPA makes formal announcement that it has filed an appeal in the Ray Rice case

A hearing date on Rice's appeal - based on evidence being long available and no dual punishment for 1 incident - must be set within 10 days

Does he have a case?

Seems any arbitrator worth a frick wouldn't allow a person of power to punish someone twice for the same offense

I don't know if he has a "case" but they certainly have a point.

Possibly but the NFLPA has to do this just from the harshness of the penalty

Yes and to avoid setting a precedent.

Why wouldn't he? Besides the whole double punishment, the league isn't even following it's own guidelines for suspension. Even if you go by the new policy that wasn't adopted until well after rice did this, he should be getting 6 games.

He absolutely has a case. Goodell screwed the pooch on this when he initially tried to cover it up.

He will likely win, as I bet he can prove Goodell was well aware of what happened and him changing his punishment in the middle of his sentence violates something within the bargaining agreement.

Yes. If he can prove the NFL had substantial knowledge of what happened in the elevator he will win. NFL will likely try to settle with him for 8 games to avoid losing the appeal.

Yep Roger's definitely gonna need to burn the evidence on this one.

Doesn't really matter, he's out the money either way... The release is completely separate of his suspension.

I hope he refuses to settle and drags Goodell down with this

The sooner he is eligible to return the better chance he has of getting a job in the NFL. Though I'm skeptical that he gets another chance.

I don't think there's any chance a team picks him up this year.... Way too much negative press involved. Plus, with the sponsors coming out against the whole AP saga, I'd imagine the sponsors of the team Rice did get on this year would pull their sponsorships immediately.

Maybe, but I think Rice gets a PR boost if he wins the appeal. The negative PR can spin back toward the NFL for fricking it up twice in 6 months

This will be a bigger deal than people think

The dirt will be dished

Does rice know if goodell saw it?

Not really. It will make the NFL look bad but it also makes him look like he's only concerned with playing. He will have skipped the rehab phase of asking for the public's forgiveness.

Doesn't even matter if he saw it, if he was told what happened the video was merely superfluous.

This. That dude shoudn't get a "PR boost" from punching his wife in the face. It should make the NFL look bad, but it shouldn't have any effect on Ray Ray's shite image.
