First they took away the $5 wine and cocktails happy hour and made it half off, then they raised their prices while at the same time shrinking their portion sizes, next they instituted a fried chicken & champagne dinner for $100+ bucks. Now they're getting rid of their happy hour completely.

It may not be the majority opinion because Coquette seems to still do good business, but this place has just gotten too big for its britches. It's not good enough to justify its elevated prices in my opinion.

Are they trying to go more traditional upscale? That's the opposite of what most think they are. Odd decision.

Cool. Making sure it wasn't kokay or some such in the event I have to verbalize the word one day.

Place is good. They must be in trouble. Too much competition.

Sorry you're poor.....

This was a long time coming. The business they're doing doesn't need a happy hour. Disappointing yes, but not hard to understand.

One of my favorite places to dine in NO. This wouldn't concern me in the least as I don't generally flock to bargains (attracts too much riff raff).

If their food stays as good as it has been every time I have eaten there, they'll keep my business.

I do find their wait staff to be a little unusual but they are very nice and efficient.

No surprise to see you going to bat for a place that's past its prime.

Still the best restaurant uptown IMO.

No surprise to see you to embellish the "annual" chicken dinner as if it's some weekly offering.

Past it's prime? It's one of the most popular Uptown restaurants in town. I've had one of my all time favorite NOLA dinner at Coquette.

So you're assuming intent from something that was never even said? Nice argument.

Popular = quality . got it.

And yes I believe when you take into consideration value, i.e. - quality + creativity of food, service and atmosphere, vs. price, Coquette was once probably the top restaurant in the neighborhood, but has since turned into an faux upscale caricature of its former self. I'm not saying the food is bad, it's not. I've had some damn good dishes there. But I think they've perched themselves atop an unearned pedestal with the constant mark-ups.

So, what you are saying that as soon as a restaurant gets outside of your price point, it becomes a snooty highbrow place and the food just isn't as good. I think you really liked taking advantage of Coquette's happy hour and are butt hurt they took away your only way to afford their delicious provisions.

If you hadn't noticed, prices have gone up pretty much everywhere in the last few years. On your current trajectory, the only place you will be able to get a decent meal soon will be Mickey D's.

I would be interested in hearing which restaurant will fill Coquette's spot in your rotation.

Just because you didn't directly state it in this thread, doesn't mean I haven't heard it out of your mouth.

No assumption here.

Back to assumptions I see......

Yes, they have increased in price enough to a point where I won't return as often as I would like. It's not clear if you were taking a shot at their creativity and quality, but I would stack Coquette's up with any in town.

Please show me where I used the terms "snooty" or "highbrow" or said that the food wasn't good. Thanks.

Nah, I've been to Coquette probably 8 times and to their happy hour only twice, and that was 3 years ago when they were doing $5 dollar glasses of wine, before they switched it to half off instead. Way to be wrong via assumption again though.

I guess the latter part of this is your poor attempt at humor, but your first point addresses reality. Although in the case of Coquette I personally think them raising prices is more in response to 1) market demand for their product, 2) an elevated sense of self-worth.

La Petite Grocery is just as good in my opinion and has held their prices, portion size and pretentiousness in check the last couple years. Ditto Boucherie.

Phantom words. Inadmissible.

Easy now, you're starting to sound as if you might agree with me.

Perhaps skip a trip to Apolline and a trip to Sammich one week and you can afford your beloved.

Creativity wise I agree, they're definitely top 5 in the city. Execution is spotty a times, and like I've said over and again: their portion sizes + ingredients just don't warrant their prices anymore. I mean this is on their web sites right now: heirloom tomatoes, eggplant, pistachio, pickled peppers for $14. No thank you.

Although it does seem they've brought down the price on their pre fixe some. $7o for a 5-course / $30 additional for wine pairing. I would do that but if I didn't leave full and satisfied (as has happened a time or 2 there) it would be last time dining with them.
