Some kind of hard drive wipe?
Crush the hard drive?

Donate it to schools?

Any cool projects? Like a home server.

destroying the data on the hard drive is a necessity. if you have a little technical know-how you can wipe it with a tool such as DBAN. If your not comfortable doing that, physically removing the drive and putting a series of holes through the drive and the platters will be sufficient. A drill press will do the trick

Yes, I did this as well before I had my old desktop recycled. It's pretty simple.

Step 1 - Remove Hard drive
Step 2 - Physically destroy the hard drive. Keep magnets for fun.
Step 3 - Take everything to a tech recycling place

I just used an old one for target practice. Those things are built like tanks. .380 was basically bouncing off. The .270 took care of it tho.

Remove the hard drive and ship it to me. I'll cover the cost. I'll take care of wiping it for you. Just throw the rest in the trash.

What are the specs of the PC? If they are reasonable, you should donate it at least to Goodwill rather than give it to some retailer to turn around and resell, especially best buy. And please just use a secure erase program to wipe the drive. There is no reason to destroy a hard drive out of unfounded paranoia. A single pass would be all it would take unless you're hiding illegal shite from the feds.
