What's Going On with Dr. Ben Carson?

Is the consensus on this board to still take him seriously?
I'm sure by now, most of us have heard about the bizarre interview he had with Bill O'Reilly, where he stood by his comments about Ray Rice, basically saying 'we should not rush to demonize him', and that 'he and his wife need help'.
But when O'Reilly mentioned domestic violence being a problem in this country, the good doctor said, 'no, I I think you are wrong about that (something like that)
What do you guys think? Is he a viable Republican presidential candidate? Does this speak to his character/maybe some mental incapacity(sometimes 'brilliant' people suffer comprehending simple social issues...they "over-think" things). Or...do you think he beats his wife?

No, but I do think Hillary beats Bill's arse all the time.

I still take him seriously, but do not think he is a viable candidate for president. I do think he has a place in politics and is a refreshing alternative to career politicians. I did not hear the interview, but usually both parties involved in domestic violence need counseling and help. Also, he may have already done the research to know that the number of domestic violence cases are down from the past. Two high profile incidents don't change the overall numbers.

EthanL, you obviously aren't sufficiently intelligent to differentiate between a couple of things. First of all, nobody in their right mind would dismiss how horrible domestic violence is, and I'm sure that Carson wasn't dismissing it, either.
But, that's different from the issue of whether there's some sort of epidemic of domestic violence in this country. Just because Ray Rice knocks out his future wife in an elevator, that one incident doesn't prove that there's a significant problem with domestic violence in America.
Don't get me wrong, there may well be a growing problem with this matter, and maybe Dr. Carson's opinion is incorrect. But what you did, EthanL, was to take Carson's opinion about the extent of domestic violence in this country and wrongly pretend that Carson was making light of the act itself.
Shame on you, dude.

I think that whatever comes out of his mouth will be judged by magnanimous liberals who walk the world in perfection while cleaning up all the imperfections that dare exist.

Personally I don't think these are hot issues. The majority of the NFL is TPOS, that have probably beat women, let's not kid ourselves. The NFL is rough. You won't find to many scholars playing it.
What makes news is a respected surgeon downplaying it, and domestic violence in general. Here is one of many links. Sorry, should not have assumed the esteemed PT Board knew this: LINK
(I didn't Know Dr. Carson tried to stab somebody...)

She married him after he knocked her unconscious, so yeah, she also needs some help.

Yep. Wanting to marry a man worth millions is worth a couple of punches it seems. That's her decision.

Listen to yourself for a second. I'll let you figure this out.
Now, as for me, I asked a simple question: Does the board still take Ben Carson as a serious candidate for president? In the interview, as with other interviews on controversial subjects, he appears to backtrack on controversial statements when pressed. He reveals things about his character that don't seem...dare I say it...conservative. So I wanted to know, from conservatives, if he is a guy they can get behind. And...
Do you think he beats his wife?

From your article:
"data from the Department of Justice shows that 51.9 percent of U.S. women report experiencing physical violence during their lifetimes. And 1.3 million women each year say they have been attacked by an intimate partner."
What are the percentages based on total population in the United States? It is estimated that there were over 158.6 million females in the United States in 2009. Less than 1% experience violence at the hands of an intimate partner each year. Looks like Carson was correct.
I do not know how to classify "experiencing physical violence in their lifetime."

a not-ready for primetime candidate who is in a conversation solely because of her gender or the color of his skin? Surely the Republican party wouldn't be that cynical...
