Wow.. pretty innovative for Louisiana. This is the kind of thing you expect (and see actually get built) in states like North Carolina, Colorado, Georgia... you know, growing cutting-edge states. Scroll below the roundabout.

I'd like to put up a personal injury billboard right there.

Single-point urban interchanges are my preference. LA has zero of course. All exiting traffic makes their left turns at the same time. This way it's not a bitch to make a left turn where you have to wait 5 minutes for a 10 second left arrow green light.

A friend that works for DOTD has said that La is know for underfunding projects and then biting on innovative designs to try and catch up.

See the Airline/Sherwood constant flow intersection as an example.

They do all this crazy shite in California and I felt like such a hick the first time I drove through one. It's pretty clever, though.

Here is a longer video but has real life examples of the traffic flow instead of computer simulations:

They were starting to build a lot of alternative intersections/roundabouts in Lafayette before I moved. There was a lot of dumb people who complained about them. I think they're highly effective.

You are right. Single Point interchanges are the best for something like that.

As I sit in traffic right around Pete's hwy I find my self wondering why we are focused on putting more cars on the interstate faster, when we cnst even deal with the number of cars that currently get on the interstate. Rather than focus on fancy new interchanges why not focus on why traffic is consistently stop and go on i12
