What are they for?
Just picked up a box of 143 gram loads for my Glock 9mm.
Biggest I've shot to date are 115 gram. I have some 124 gram hydroshocks for home defense that I've never shot.

I've got 147gr JHP's in my 9mm. Lot's of discussion on heavy-for-caliber loads out there.

All I loaded for my .45's were 230 gr. jacketed hollow points. I wasn't going for distance.

Nothing wrong with big boolits.

Energy is mass x speed. Bigger may fly slower but more energy. Bit not always. Just need to look at ballistics charts.

Something like that. You need to know what and what before anything.

Among other things, heavier bullets can serve to adjust point of impact on fixed sighted handguns by changing elevation.

To start pissing matches between same caliber gun users, pissimg matches between different caliber users wasnt enough.

Or to actually have different performance characteristics, in hunting situations for example.

Yes when hunting with my 10mm. I wanted something that would go through and through a deer to give me a blood trail. I went with the heaviest 10mm I could find.

Sorry, I was in OT mode. You are absolutely correct.

One word of caution is that different grain bullets have different grain and/or type of powder, and the powder is directly proportional to the action of semi-automatic pistols. Most of the cookie cutter pistols don't have an issue but some of the 1911 and smaller pocket pistols are very finicky with powder grain. The issue is with ejecting and loading.

nope. mass times velocity-squared.

There is no obvious use for heavy 9mm rounds other than making them subsonic for silenced pistols.

Use the data

Get yoousef some 9mm 147 grain Federal HST ammo.

If you hit your target, they are about the best rounds you can buy. (If you miss, you might as well use the WWB 115 grain ammo from Walmarks.)
