Went through San Antonio over the weekend for a funeral. Stayed overnight in SA. Made a quick trip to river walk and it was very nice. I would like to go back for a 4/5 day weekend type trip. Any suggestions on hotels, food, things to do etc?

TIA

Do:
Visit the riverwalk
drink margaritas
get tableside guac
Remember the Alamo
go to seaworld or six flags or whatever they have there

Don't:
Fall in the river
stay more than 3 nights
go to ripley's believe it or not

Go in April for Fiesta, it's their version of Mardi Gras.

How is the river walk for the holidays. Pics look pretty cool. Will it be crowded as in a bad time to go?

I think it's about an hour drive, but floating the Frio River out of Concan was an amazing experience. I will definitely do it the next time I'm back in SA.

Drive to Austin and stay there.

Seriously, SA can be done before lunch. It's the Riverwalk and the Alamo. After that, head to Austin.

No

Countless authentic places within an hour or so drive from SA if you want real TX BBQ. Rudy's is a chain.

I went to school down there and sadly this guy is right

did a 3 day weekend in the hill country last month with the wife, did a night in new braunfels and floated the river(highly recommend)

drove to Fredericksburg and did some wine tours(awesome)

went to SA for one night and ate on the riverwalk and then did the Alamo and lunch next day and were ready to GTFO of town. around SA is very nice, downtown area is slum outside of riverwalk and Alamo.

Austin kicks it arse and is an hour north.

I would do 4-5 days, just do 2 days, 1 night in SA, and then consider the above mentioned places, you wont be dissapointed

this ... the river walk is extremely over-rated ... everyone wants to have that nola feel ... the restaurants are 2nd rate at best and generic, the walk itself is very crowded, and the alamo is a hut in the middle of the city ...

So San Antonio isn't "cultured" enough?

Yep, the Hill Country would be a better choice than SA, as well...

Stay at the JW Marriot out in the hill country. Very nice resort with a great golf course and big pool, good food, etc
