Do you approve or disapprove of The Eagle's format change in the past few years?

As many of you know, 104.1 The X dissolved a couple of years ago and consequently created a void in the alternative/hard rock radio landscape in Baton Rouge.
Guaranty Broadcasting realized that it could absorb many of these radio refugees by slipping in some of the more popular bands from 104.1's playlist (e.g. Tool, Radiohead, Nirvana, Metallica, etc.) during 98.1's music shuffle.
At first it was something that was done very discreetly during the middle of the night on weekends. You would occasionally hear "Creep", "Smells Like Teen Spirit", or "Nothing Else Matters"...not a big deal, right?
However, it has recently become a much more prevalent practice. I can't help but be irked every time I hear Metallica and Nirvana played alongside Bob Seger, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and other classic rock legends. What I find particularly annoying is that The Eagle is still referred to as "Your Home for Classic Rock" despite playing a number of bands that have nothing to do with the time/era-specific genre label.
Personally, I think there should be an outright hard rock, alternative rock, or heavy metal station in southeast Louisiana, especially when you realize that 93.7 and 92.3 have switched formats in the past year.
But no, all we get in the Baton Rouge market is country, "urban music", top 40, and the same repetitive classic rock over and over again.
And it is for that reason why I never leave home without multiple CDs in my car.

I think the issue is that 90s rock/alternative is an extremely popular genre and unless you create a radio station exclusively for that format, there's no place to hear that music on terrestrial radio. If I recall correctly, SiriusXM's Lithium, its 90s alternative station, is one of the most listened-to channels on the service.
Alternative stations typically play current alternative or nothing earlier than the 2000s. Classic rock stations typically go from late 60s through the early 80s, as you pointed out. It leaves that era of "rock music" without anywhere to be played.
My assumption is that market research has revealed that a sizable enough percentage of classic rock fans also like 90s rock.

The general rock format is spreading all over the country, including 104.1 in Lafayette. I support it. There isn't much of a market for modern rock anymore. That's why all these stations keep changing formats.

I never listen to 90.3, what is it?
91.1 is awesome depending on what DJ/show is on

I'm pretty positive you aren't a fan of jazz but it is a pretty good jazz channel. And late on Sunday nights they play some real good spacey shite.
I don't know why I forgot KLSU. Some of their shows are really good (Freaky Styley Funk Show, Underground Sounds, and Burnin' to Babylon)
RIP Jam Wednesdays

The more I listen to the Eagles, the more I realize how much they suck. Love Joe Walsh though.
