I'm going to go to the LSU games in Auburn and in Florida this year and meander thru that area of the country between the two games. Are there any not to miss eating establishments on the way, in or near these two venues?? tka

I remember some good little burger place in Auburn. I think it was Niffers or Niffens. Amsterdams was already mentioned. Hamilton's was pretty good when I ate there years ago. Not sure if it is still there.

In Gainesville I don't remember anything specific, but there was a nice row of bars across the street from the stadium. One is called The Swamp and we ate there the night before a Troy/florida game back in the Tebow era. Fried gator tail bites were good. And there was on bar that was upstairs. Had a street level entrance but you went up the stairs and to the right at the top. I can't remember the name of it, but it was a wide open space with a long bar at one end. We sat there the afternoon before the last Florida/Alabama game and watched all of the afternoon games. Food was good for bar food, and the bar was well stocked. Seemed like an older crowd during the day and later that night we went back there.

Niffers is okay.

Momma Goldberg's is pretty good. If you go there make sure you get nachos. They're just Doritos with pepperjack cheese melted over them topped with jalapeños but they are so good.

If for any reason you have to go through Birmingham go to Saw's Soul Kitchen and Big Bad Breakfast.

The Auburn Board compiled a list of BBQ joints across the state. Could be worth your time to scan it and see if you'll be passing any. Here is the LINK.

It's decent, but I wouldn't recommend a chain if someone is making a road trip.

As you are making your way to Gainesville, check out Thomasville. Auburn to Gainesville is some of the crappiest part of the country, but this is an oasis.

If nothing else, check out Grassroots Coffee and order a french press.

Also, the Billiard Academy is renowned for its hot dogs.

I would only go to the original Momma G's. It's basically on campus and better than the others. It's not out of this world but worth the walk if you're on campus and hungry (although you could probably walk around campus and get free food from tailgates as long as you're not a dick )

I didn't realize it started in Auburn. That is a different colored horse.

That's the difference between LSU and AU. At LSU you can get free food from tailgates even if you are a dick.

The top in Gainesville is a hipster place that has great beer and cocktails as well as good food.

Dragonfly has awesome sushi. Satchels is a really popular pizza place.

Right by campus doesn't have the best food, but The Swamp (as mentioned earlier) is popular and should be a good crowd. Sweet potato fries are good.

Swamp head brewery has good beer and is located in gainesville. They sometimes have a food truck outside.

La Tienda is a dive that has good authentic mexican food.

Overall just stay away from Archer rd which is mostly chains and you will be good.
