We're worse than the AFC North
Posted by bountyhunter on 9/14/14 at 8:53 pm00
(Based off of common opponents)
We lose to Atlanta, who lost to the Bengals.
We lose to Cleveland, who lost to Pittsburgh, who lost to the Ravens.
If we keep showing up to games poorly-coached and don't execute plays, the floor is the limit folks.

But #1 pick coming our way...

Horrible logic. Any team can win on any given day. 10-6 and 6-10 are more similar than you think. 2 plays and we would be 2-0. Look at last year, we hardly won our first two games, but we made those two plays that allowed us to start 2-0. Obviously it hasn't worked out that way so far this season.
I mean you could also make that argument with Atlanta's Oline, but who really cares? Baltimore looked awful until the end of the game during week 1, then they made a complete turnaround in week 2. Pittsburgh did the exact opposite.
If you watched Cleveland week 1, they were a completely different team in the 2nd half. It just goes to show that, like I said before, any team can win on any given day, no matter the record.
As far as the Saints this season, they should be 2-0, but because of dumb play calling and silly mistakes, they are 0-2 instead. I'm just tired of people on here knocking the Saints. They aren't a bad team at all. The main problem is execution and the coaching so far really. The talent is certainly there, and if you don't believe me, look at last years results. 1st playoff road win ever. What other saints team can say that?

We are common divisions this year so we will find out.
Cincinnati playing against the Saints in the Superdome will be a good game. Sadly it's at 1pm.

How about this. We are 0-2, the lowest ranked opponent in the AFC North is 1-1. "Worse" is a relative word, and anyone winning any given day is clear, but my statement is 100% true. We are finishing week 2 with a worse W-L than any team in the AFC North, and when you compare common opponents (which match up rather well) it is even more true. I point again to what I said at the end of that post:

Anyone can win any given Sunday... No crap, but there are key things you cannot do week-to-week and expect to win.

Oh it will most definitely be a great game. Meh, I kinda prefer the early games just so I can get them out of the way and do whatever I want afterwards. The suspense always kills me with the later games...
I get what you are saying. It sucks to beat up on our team. But honestly, I can't help it.
I bought into all the hype. I figured that an entire season of good D last year meant - with a few upgrades - we were a team to be reckoned with.
I relished in the numerous "experts" calling the Saints a SB contender/favorite.
I flew to that shithole known as Atlanta to sit in that stinky tent and see our defense give up more yards than any game in 2012, to a team that got smoked today by a Ginger.
I bought into the excuses about our soft coverage and bad scheme, expecting to shut down a tragically weak Browns offense.
I sat here tonight and watched the same pathetic defense, get torn up by a 5 start QB, in a 4-12 offense, minus Cameron and Gordon. All the time trying to explain to my 10 year old son, with his #9 jersey on, why the Saints D is such a pathetic joke.
Yes, they really are that bad. You are what your record is - especially when your defense plays like that.

So with your logic OP, Cleveland can't beat the Ravens. You didn't talk about records before, you originally said that since we lost to Atlanta, who lost to Cincy, we wouldn't be able to beat Cincy? That's bull shite and you know it. An 0-2 team is perfectly capable of beating a 2-0 team if they plan accordingly, especially a team with the talent we have. I mean frick, we lost to both teams by a combined 5 points on the last play of each game. What other team in the league with an 0-2 record can say that? Obviously we could be 2-0 if we didn't make a few costly mistakes, but that doesn't mean we would automatically win against a team with a worse record...

I never said that Cleveland, or any team for that matter, can't beat any other team in the NFL.
Starting records don't mean much, I realize that. Look at the division last year, one 0-2 team sucked throughout the season and the other went on to win the division.
So using your combined points as a reference, and my reference to last year's performances by Carolina and Tampa, Carolina lost by a combined total of 6 points and Tampa lost by a total of 3 points; yet Carolina won the division and Tampa had 4 total wins. My point is it doesn't matter how much you lose by, a loss is still a loss and they catch up with you later in the season. They also have a compounding effect on a team throughout a year if you don't start winning quickly.
There is little/no statistical logic in the explanation of football throughout a season. I never said an 0-2 Saints team can't beat the Bengals, but as of right now we are not playing better than the Bengals. I have not seen any evidence on the field this year that shows that we are a better coached team than the Bengals either. The one thing that is encouraging is the penalty count on the year, that is one area we have improved on from pre-season to regular season (8 penalties, 66 yards), which is one positive sign on the side of coaching.
I am a hopeless optimist guys, but you have to be blind if you think this team is playing anywhere in the top 50% of the NFL right now. I don't care about personnel, records, stats, whatever. We are an 0-2 team for many reasons.
