Why is it so difficult for AJ to complete short passes?

He throws a really good deep ball, but his short game is just dreadful. Can't remember who he was trying to throw to in the flat tonight but he completely botched it. This could become concerning in 3rd and 5s etc if the D knows he can't pass short. Also, guessing we didn't see any screens tonight because we didn't need them? Those could be huge plays for LF if we could simply complete them.

I have seen at least a few arrow routes that he has either thrown behind or thrown too hard to.

It's a weakness, but had a few drops tonight. I think he's clearly getting better.

because on a deep ball as long as its ahead of the reciever the WR can adjust to it, and slow down or speed up and go get the ball.

Short passes have to be on a spot or they don' really work.

He needs to start memorizing Victoria Secret lingerie descriptions like Rube in Major League 2.

He did have 2 drops early by receivers on short passes. To me its when he's attempting the touch pass over traffic that he's weak on.

You would think that he would excel in those screen passes considering he doesn't have a cannon. Usually guys compensate for not having a huge arm, by being great on touch passes and have amazing accuracy. He'll get there eventually, and it seems like the coaches are slowly easing him into it.

I missed the first half of the game and have heard that a few shorter ones were dropped. Seems like I was right in the fact that they would throw more short stuff against ULM and from the half I watched, it seemed like they were really vanilla with mostly max protect and one WR sets.

AJ is quite Limited as a QB, he was a runner in HS, but he is a quick learner.
Needs more game reps as a short or screen passer, hope it doesn't cost a game to get the reps needed.

This is what he should have been working on the last two games against cupcakes but les is hell bent on running the ball against bad teams

I agree, but CLM likes to shorten the games against the weaker competition unlike other teams who like to run it up...Was really surprised to see the SHSU game play out like it did...

The stop/curl route and back shoulder throws which will be needed in SEC play are something he can't do.
