I was suggesting the Glock 19.
He likes my .22 Beretta and wants a Beretta brand. I like my Glock 22 .40 Caliber's build better.
Though my day to day in truck gun is a S&W .38
I may look at something in the 9mm range myself.
I would rather spend less than $5oo, his gun is $579. If he gets it.
Kinda wanted some other good 9's in that size.
(I already suggested a 1911 and that was shot down)

I have a PX4 9mm - great gun. Fits perfectly in my hand, easy peazy to maintain.

I have a PX4 Storm .40. My favorite gun by far.

Nothing wrong with his choice.

the px4 has like 16 miles of travel on the trigger, but it is a very comfortable gun

I have a PX4 9mm. It is an overall good gun. But you can't go wrong with the Glock 19 also. I would recommend this gun to anyone.

I like the PX4, but if you want to handle something else in that price range with similar features check out the Sig Sauer SP2022.

Nah, just a side comment. Having messed around with the PPQ, the UTac glock trigger, and the Apex trigger for the M&P, most stock triggers feel like shite now. That's why I want to play with a VP9 so I can see how it matches up

I shot it last night. I realy liked it.
I'm rethinking my whole descion to make the .38 my go to.
I sucked last night. All I can say is Zombie Osama survived and I killed the hostage in the other one.
I liked the 9mm. I also liked how much cheaper the ammo was. I was paying $35 a box for .38SPL damn..

If he wants to stay in the polymer, double stack, full sized 9mm category, he needs to make a decision:
1. Hammer-fired
2. Striker-fired
The PX4 will have a different trigger pull for the first pull (double action) and every shot after that will be single action with a shorter trigger travel. While this isn't necessarily a good or bad thing, if you carry this gun or use it for defense, you need to train for both types of trigger pulls.
If it's his first 9mm handgun I would suggest going with something striker-fired first. Although my first gun was a Beretta 90two that also uses the same firing mechanism (DA/SA) I see in hindsight that a striker-fired pistol would've been good first.
The benefit of a striker-fired pistol is that the trigger pull is always the same. The same can be said for a 1911 but that gun also retains a thumb safety, which is something else that must be incorporated into training.
Some common hammer fired full sized 9mms:
1. Beretta PX4
2. Beretta 92
3. Sig 226/228/2022/etc.
4. HK USP
5. Other HKs
6. FN FNP/FNX
Your basic common polymer 9mm striker fired guns are:
1. S&W M&P
2. Ruger SR
3. Glock
4. Springfield XD
There are also a few others to consider:
1. Walther PPQ
2. FN FNS
3. HK VP9
4. Some others...
These may be higher in price and have more expensive accessories but they are all fine pistols.
So, once he decides whether he wants to stick with striker or hammer, then he can move on from there.
If he's on a sub-$500 budget, I'd suggest an M&P or a Ruger SR. Both can be had for a good price if you look in the right places.

It's kind of a trait for da/sa to have some over travel.
