I recently visited my father's grave, and I noticed a headstone near his that said "Lord, put light in my eyes, that I will not sleep in death"
WTF does that mean?
WTF does that mean?

That The Lord gives him eternal life and he goes to heaven and not just lay in nothingness.

Thanks Berg, I guess that makes sense.

Upvote for an elegantly worded, yet simple explanation.

Cemetery. Sorry. Ran one for years and is just a pet peeve.

Where I grew up (near the Pittsburgh Airport) there was a strange grave as well, known as 'Damian's Grave.' It was discovered after the movie The Omen was out. Off in the corner by itself was a black headstone with simply the name DAMIAN written on it along with the quote, "NOT GOODBYE, JUST SO LONG" and there was an upside-down cross. Sometime after I moved to Louisiana in 89 the headstone was replaced by a newer, fancier one, with the same name and quote and a more indiscreet art-deco upside-down cross.

quote:
His gravestone simply reads "JACK LEMMON in," a reference to how he was billed on film credits.

Old New England cemeteries often have macabre verse.

From that pic, it looks like Damian is the last name of the family and Carmen R. Is the first person to be buried in that plot. Some people buy plots way before they die, even picking out headstones and just add the names later.
Not sure about the upside-down cross. It could be the Cross of St. Peter, which I think is upside down to represent humility.

The original was a very small black headstone with a very distinct upside-down cross on it. I think someone even spray painted another upside-down cross on it. During the 80s during the era of heavy metal and devil worship, all the heathens would go there and place upside-down crosses around it and some would even have sex on his gravesite, leave their empty beer cans, etc.

Ok, but the movie character was "Damien", not "Damian".

Still, it was a coincidence.
