his accent is a good bit more refined than Smiths which had a Cockney-cheapsidish quality, Capaldi's sounds more like Scottish which you could hear just a bit of in Tennant as well, a tradition going back to some of the early doctors like McCoy(Sylvester not bones). When he rips off a quick phrase the words can get muddled and less discernible, the UK dialects are one of the great Who traditions.

They're both Scottish.

Of course, John Barrowman (Capt. Jack) is also Scottish...

For those having trouble understanding Capaldi, I recommend trying to find a way to watch The Thick of It. You'll get used to Capaldi's rapid-fire style.

yea Tennant was purposefully trying to hide the scotty in his accent, where as Capaldi isn't.

You won't need to because your first impression was correct.

Pretty typical chilling in place type episode before the two part finale starting next week.

I did rewatch it. There were several things that stick out this time:

The way they were resigned to how humans were all going to die was very strange. Literally no one died in this episode yet somehow they had to say their final goodbyes while the doctor went "home" and Clara stayed so she wouldn't be the last of her species. Huh? And where was the doctor going? Home?

And seriously, where the heck were all the other people of London????

I still don't understand where the sister was or why she appeared in a bush at the end. Did the fireflies bring her? Was she abducted? Did the girl wish her there? Was she playing hide and seek??

The opening sequence was enthralling. Basically it was an introduction to the doctor and tour of the tardis from a child's perspective. Really well done.

The little girl was hard to understand. It took me forever to realize what she was trying to say when she said what sounded like "fought", for example. Then add distortion and a deep voice on top of hers when the fireflies talked and I still barely understood a word on second viewing. As a result neither me nor my wife understood the explanatory scene, know what or who the creatures were. Did they make the trees? Did they turn into trees themselves? Are all trees these creatures?

Loved how nobody would say how the tardis was bigger on the inside and the doctor kept getting annoyed.

Both Clara and Danny have become strong characters. I hope they don't die in two weeks.

Another great performance by capaldi.

I would put it about tied with time heist as the 2 filler episodes of the season. Maybe slightly worse because the main story didn't make much sense. Some good dialogue and strong moments here and there but episodes that were disappointing. Really looking forward to next week. It looks very interesting even though cyber man episodes for new who usually aren't the greatest.

This is pretty good so far. Coleman and Capaldi have some pretty damn good chemistry. It's going to suck when she leaves.

"I feel like I'm missing something."

Also: "sounds like somebody donated their body to science."

Really enjoyed the episode. The 3 words concept was great. I hope they can deliver next week.

Man... It dropped SO many hints but it still didn't click until the water started to drop. The doors...when they closed...looked like the eyes.

Really well acted. So many feels.

This is going to be REALLY good.

yes there were LOTS of hints with regards to that reveal. And it even poked fun at the doctor for not figuring it out when he went through those doors.

As for the identity of missy, certainly it wasn't a shock but they left several of the discussed possibilities open up until the last moment. I honestly thought they were going in a different direction, and sort of wish they had. But it's still interesting and was well done.

That was Incredible. But I'm not sure how I feel about the Master coming back. Great twist, though.

My favorite part was with the psychic paper Malcolm Tucker reference
"Why is there so much swearing?"
"Oh I've got a lot of that internalized"

Anyone else notice Clara's birthday? November 23rd. The day Doctor Who premiered in 1963. That was nice.

I really wish they hadn't shown the fricking Cybermen in the episode preview. Ruined the big reveal for me. As soon as they said what the dark water did I knew what was in the tanks.

This was a pretty great episode. Just...what timeframe are we working with with Missy and 3W? Danny was still around to talk to Clara, but there's no way that institute was around in 2014. Why did they let him hang around so long? That's just weird.

Best Capaldi episode yet. He was perfect in this one and I liked the interplay between he and Missy.

SPOILERS:

Would have preferred somebody different but a) this was supposed to be a major reveal so it couldn't have been a new character and b) Guess #2 for most people (The Rani) wouldn't have worked because she's more amoral than evil.

Still, I felt the Master's arc had (finally) been closed a few years back with him actually somewhat redeeming himself and finding the source of his madness so they'll have to explain why (s)he is a megalomaniac loon again.
