Tim Leiweke on Defoe today: "I personally don't think he will come back. If he doesn't want to be here you get rid of him."

They are going to miss the playoffs despite spending the most money in the offseason. Defoe is pretty much out the door and I won't be surprised if Bradley gives it another go in Europe in a year or two.

He sure needs to, IMO. I know he won't be able to get paid in Europe like he is in MLS, but he could easily be a very important player for a top half of the table kind of team in one of the big leagues in Europe. He doesn't have all that many years left in his athletic prime to be that box to box kind of player that he has become known for. And given that he is our most important player and future captain, he needs to be playing against the best competition possible to be at his best for the USMNT. He can always come back at the back end of his career and still be a very good MLS player.

I didn't realize that the Prem was moving to a playoffs format.
