Hi, I am looking for the best place with both great gumbo and poboys. When I lived in Nola, I usually made my own gumbo and only ate poboys when the vendors bought them in Metairie.
I'll be back next Friday and my bf wants to eat some gumbo. I'm staying in the warehouse district but we can go uptown, warehouse, CBD, or the quarter. Any suggestions would help. TIA!

I was thinking casamentos or Mr Bs before I posted this. Thanks!

I would try Katie's in mid city. They serve both and do a pretty good with them. Oysters are still a little weird right now, so I wouldn't do Casementos, but the gumbo ya ya at mr bs is great, just no poboys there

Are you only here long enough for one meal ?

I'm not sure of a place in NOLA that does both really well. Might be best to go to different places for each.

And what casamentos serves is technically not a poboy, but it's damn delicious and that is where I would want you to take me.

Yes, only in town on Friday night unless we find decently priced tickets for the saints game Sunday. So yea, basically only 1 meal maybe a lunch on Saturday before going to br to tailgate.

If you are already in warehouse district then do not go to Katie's, service is terrible and food is not great either. Try Tracey's on magazine for poboys. I am not sure if they have gumbo. If you are craving gumbo then head to the Old Coffee Pot in the French Quarter for breakfast, they have great gumbo and awesome breakfast as well.

What did the OP do to you?

I would avoid Tracey's for food, it's gone significantly down hill.

Not many poboy places in WHD, I would try to get to Parkway if you're in town early enough.

Gumbo- eh, Mr. B's is excellent but I'm struggling coming up with a more casual place with decent gumbo.

Neither of these are world-beaters a la Parkway or Guy's when it comes to poboys, but given what you're looking for I think they'd be good options for you guys if you want to be Uptown.

Is the OP a pariah and I'm just unaware?

I would recommend, but it's a little further than Parkway.

Does parkway have gumbo? We will be in town around 8pm Friday night.

He just said he wants to eat some good gumbo and some Cajun food. I figured he should try a traditional New Orleans poboy. I might just take him to some gas station poboy spot Bc those were the places I went to growing up.

What about that place in the quarter with the muffalata (sp?)?

I love the BBQ shrimp at Mr Bs so that's why I thought of that place. We can go to something similar to Mr Bs or decently priced. We have a vehicle so we will be able to drive wherever.

For the saints game.. I was talking about the Vikings game.

Ahh, the old Cajun in N.O. request. It's always an interesting subject.

Mr. B's has great BBQ shrimp and some of the best gumbo in the city. It's a little nicer than I think you were originally looking for, but I'm sure you two will enjoy it.

What about Pascale manales? Heard the BBQ shrimp is good there. Do you think mr bs is better than that place?

Believe it or not, Gumbo Shop makes some pretty good gumbo. Dunno about their poboys. But if you're in the quarter you could hit Killer Poboys or Johnnys for those.

Eh, I wouldn't say "horrible." Especially considering the fact that there just aren't that many places in Nola that have both gumbo AND poboys.

If they can scratch the gumbo idea then Parkway or Guy's are no-brainers.

Mr B's I think is good but not worth the price for a sandwich and soup.

I don't think those places are horrible. Better than any place in Dallas.
