I'm not familiar with fishing in Yankee land. Are muskie good to eat? Are they considered a trash fish like most consider hardheads, gar or choupique down here? If muskie are a good eating fish, I could understand the concern of the two guys that caught it on video. But if they are like trash fish here, I don't understand why they are so upset. (unless muskie are endangered?)

They are very much like pike fish. Nothing like hardhead fish or choupique fish.

I know even know what to think or which side to be on

quote:

Adult muskellunge are apex predators where they occur naturally. Only humans pose a threat to an adult but juveniles are consumed by other muskies, northern pike, bass, and occasionally birds of prey. The musky's low reproductive rate and slow growth render populations highly vulnerable to overfishing. This has prompted some jurisdictions to institute artificial propagation programs in an attempt to maintain otherwise unsustainably high rates of angling effort and habitat destruction.

The wiki doesn't say anything about them being edible

The muskie has taken a serious drop in population over the years and they are somewhat protected from what I understand. I'm not sure you can even keep them if you catch them.

I think that's why they were so pissed off.

Muskie fish can be kept in several states, but the limit is low(1 per person in some) and the length minimum is high.

Caddo Lake is full of Chain Pickerel/Jack fish... I've never seen them anywhere else, but they look like a muskie or pike.

We consider them trash fish. They have a gigantic mouth and eat anything. Plastic worms, spinner baits... anything.

So, I'm good if y'all see me kill a gar fish down here? Anyone have any problems with that? I know Pop is on my side.

Throw on bank to bait hogs. Hogs won't eat okra, but they will eat a 5 day old gar carcase with mung oozing out of it, flies and all.

Oh yeah, sure. Then a gator will kill said hog on the bank and I'm to blame for that. Nice try.

Just saw on my news feed that he has been sentenced:

I really don't care, but I remembered I started this thread

quote:

A Windsor man has been fined $1,000 and is banned from fishing for two years for a fishing violation.
