Some teachers (perhaps many) are stupid fricking assholes. I expect this will be rectified quickly by the school district, if it hasn't already.

I'm not surprised. 10 years from now that same teacher will have a comparison of the greatness of Obama and Abraham Lincoln.

obviously that's ridiculous political indoctrination and is insanely offensive and wrong…

but on one hand I'm kind of impressed at the critical thinking that an exercise like this would cause 6th graders to employ. We never had these kinds of free form and conversation-inducing exercises until I was in college or grad school. Just wish the example was not retarded.

I just wonder what the reaction would have been if they'd asked to do the same comparison between BHO and Stalin? Or BHO and Chairman Mao?

Wait - I guess because those guys are heroes to the left, there wouldn't be much outcry.

Serious question:

Why is anyone surprised by this?

I'm not in the current climate, but just didn't think it was real, like some Onion piece. If thats real, parents should demand termination of teacher, and everyone involved...

I sort of agree with this, but I just have to advise you that, based on my experience in the classroom, 6th graders are not ready for that complex discussion. In fact, they're not even close to ready. It would be like throwing mathematical physics at them.
