U.S. intel reports warned of 9/11 style attack

I know we've all heard stories about U.S. intel reports warning of 9/11 attacks, but after reading the official report it is shocking how specific and accurate they were. For example, a Presidential Daily Brief to Bill Clinton warned: "Bin Laden Preparing to Hijack US Aircraft and Other Attacks." An FBI field agent also wrote a report warning that Bin Laden was training student pilots at U.S. aviation schools. On the anniversary of 9/11, they are quite interesting to read.

Agreed, I was stunned when we learned this in 2002.

Let's let them run a national healthcare system.

Yeah, so why is it being brought up again today?

yeah, you would think that we would have learned our lesson by now. I wonder how many warnings about ISIS and ISIL have been dismissed by Obama.
We have to be right 100% of the time to prevent a terrorist attack, they only have to be right once.
Leaders need to take these threats seriously.

The amazing thing was James Woods (the actor) saw two of the hijackers a month before it happened and alerted the FBI to suspicious activity. The FBI came to his house to get debriefed and sure enough - it was two of the terrorists.

I knew we couldn't go all day without a truther thread.

Anybody else wonder what was in those documents Sandy Berger stole from the National Archives?

I thought truthers said it wasn't terrorists who did it. So some just think we knew about it and purposefully ignored it? I think incompetence is a much more plausible explanation.

They receive reports every day about groups determined to attack the U.S. and its interests. You're using the benefit of hindsight to determine what warnings should have been heeded or ignored.

Are you claiming I am a truther for posting a link that shows facts from the official 9/11 report?
It wasn't a government coverup, but if Clinton had taken these threats more seriously than maybe he would have sent in special forces to capture Bin Laden in 90s when CIA predicted a 95% chance of successful capture.

See it on the 9/11 report for yourself if you don't believe me.

I'll give you that. Hindsight is 20/20, but I just found it shocking how spot on some of the reports were.
See "In July 2001, an FBI agent in the Phoenix field office sent a memo to FBI headquarters. . . advising of the 'possibility of a coordinated effort by Usama Bin Ladin' to send students to the United States to attend civil aviation schools. The agent based his theory on the 'inordinate number of individuals of investigative interest' at such schools in Arizona."

bullshite! With the amount of funding and personnel they get AND with the ability (and permission) to spy on all of us and others there is no fricking excuse.

didn't we know this within weeks after the attacks, which were 13 years ago
and by the way, bush gets way too much of a pass for his foreign policy and security failures...say what you want about billy bob, he didn't give us the patriot act

The government was pretty confident/scared that there was going to be an al Qaeda on US soil imminent, but I really don't think they had good intel on the specifics of the attack. Hijacking planes and crashing them into buildings was just one of a number of potential scenarios terrorists were tossing around at the time. We foiled the millennium plot to bomb LAX by pure luck with a customs agent that thought she caught a guy with drugs. The government probably could have done more to make sure we weren't ever attacked, but it would have (rightly IMO) been met with backlash about the government invading our privacy and taking away our rights. They were crazy determined and if we stopped the 9/11 attacks they probably would have eventually found another way to hit us.

Our Gov't is slow, incompetent and TBH stupid. I'm a little tired of all this "hindsight is 20/20 bullshite". The job of the many intel agencies along with the FBI/CIA/military is to stop shite before it happens...that's their SOLE mission in life!
Another attack will happen because our Gov't as a whole is too slow & stupid to do anything about it.

It was a joke DJ. I was commenting that every year on 9/11 we always have people come in and bash the government, for either doing it themselves, a cover up, or simply being ignorant.
I understand that this happened and it was in the report. This is 12 year old news though, no need to post it today.

Bill Clinton allowed al Qaeda to grow without resistance.
GWB was in office a few months, but the problem was already un place by the time he arrived.
The al Qaeda threat was a threat long before 1999.
