by hidden I mean a badass guitar solo/riff that wasn't really featured in the song because the other music or singer was drowning it out. I;m drunk, so this might not make sense, but frick it.
my nomination is the clash- Train in vain...skip to the last 45 sec.
jesus and the mary chain had a lot of songs that would fit this criteria too

I think the verse riff in Mr. Crowley by Randy Rhoads is fantastic but Ozzy is singing and harmonizing with the riff so it kinda gets buried. Awesome evil sounding riff.

Black Sabbath's "Turn Up The Night" from Mob Rules.
The rhythm riff during the chorus is basically a long bad arse solo.

Not really hidden, but Duane Allman and Eric Clapton have so many great parts to Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad that you consistently find new incredible passages. I wish there were video of that studio session.

The Yardbirds - Five Long Years (Five Live Yardbirds)
Clapton basically goes fricking nuts this whole song, but you can't hear it over Keith Relf's absurdly loud harmonica and the shitty acoustics of where they were recording live.

Nearly everything John Paul Jones or John Entwistle did on the bass with Led Zeppelin or The Who, respectively. You can almost say that about Flea with RHCP.
For six-string players, most great ones found a way to make it stand out.
An example might be Eric Johnson (highly underrated and relatively unknown compared to his talent) in Minstrel Gigalo on the great Christopher Cross debut album.
Vinyl Rip
Not the main solo, necessarily, but some of the fills within the song. Really, really good player from Austin that almost nobody knows.

Saw him twice in Baton Rouge in the 80's--at the Chimes, and the LSU Union, believe it or not. He was frickin fantastic. One of the best guitarists I've ever seen live, and I'm old, I've seen them all.

He's really gifted - he never really broke through, but he is also somewhat of a guitar historian. He is one of the guys with whom other recording artists and session musicans consult to reverse engineer certain guitar riffs or sounds. He's researched the greats, heavily, and can tell you what equipment they used and even how they fretted chords and picking techniques. And then he can play it like they played it - in most cases.

Eric Johnson is one of the best guitarist on the planet. Impeccable taste, feel, technique and tone.

Damnit Heady, I was going to post that.
My favorite cut from the 'Layla' album. Masterful interplay.
