Honest to God question, what did seeing a video tape change in this situation?

I thought Ray Rice lightly slapped his wife. Do not understand why people are freaking out now, the video tape changed nothing on my view on the situation.

If Goodell had given Rice a 6-8 game suspension in the first place, none of this would be happening.

This is what I have been saying as well. It just gave him an excuse to stiffen the punishment after all of the backlash. But now its blowing up in his face.

ETA: misunderstood the OP. My question is...what did the video change in Goodell's mind? He knew Rice hit her hard enough to knock her out? How could seeing it happen make it worse than originally thought?

it's not what's on the video it's the cover-up part.

my fiancee said when she looked at it that it wasn't even as bad as she thought it would be.

but again the coverup > video

Didn't Ray's wife go to bat for him, that's why the suspension was so light to begin with. I think Godel as much as I hate him was going to go way harder on Rice, But Janay defended Ray in July.

Goodell claimed he hadn't seen the video. Now the AP is saying he did. He's been caught in a lie. That's really all that matters.

Let's be real here, we know what happens if she talks bad about Rice. It was awful that they had to have a meeting with Janay and Ray in the first place.
