Also starring Maggie Gylennhaal and Domhnall Gleeson (from the delightful "About Time") to complete the "difficult to spell their name" trio.

Looks like it's only the director's second major film, but he did a good job with this one. For those that haven't heard about it, it's about a shitty indy band lead by "Frank" (Fassbender), who never takes a giant mask off, getting a gig at South by Southwest. About half of the film is spent during the process of making their album with most of the other half showing the trip to Austin. Definitely worth a watch, if only for Fassbender's performance. Was a limited release to theaters a few days ago, but also is available on demand (or by less than legal means).

what made you want to keep watching? while i really liked the theme of the movie, it seemed to really drag and repeat several times throughout. i think its going to be a very polarizing film. if it was slightly shorter and got to the "point" more, it wouldve connected better for me.

it got lost in the "frank" persona who actually isnt the main character.

(no spoilers)
I enjoyed the 3 leads. I also legitimately enjoyed all of Frank's solo music. The band itself was terrible, but when Frank did his own thing, it was really good (along with the final "I love you all" song, which included most of the band and was really catchy).

Lost in the good way? I loved him in it. And even though he's a dislikeable character, I thought Gleeson did a good job as the lead.

it funny to think about fassbender's performance in this type of movie. how do you judge an actor when there is absolutely no facial dependance on his performance and his lines are just ADRed after the fact?

im not trying to take away from the movie. youre the first person ive seen mention the movie. the central idea about creating and the madness in it was definitely intriguing. idk if the direction of the film was strong enough. there were stretches where i was wondering what was going on and if it had a story.

That's mostly why I'm pimping it. It's as unique a film as you can get and it's a good movie.

No doubt, especially while they're making the album and when they get to SxSW.

I don't want to imply that it's a great movie, but it's a good one that I think will mostly go ignored.

Since I at least have one person's attention, please check out either "Mary and Max" (available on Netflix instant) or "Cheap Thrills" (free on Amazon Prime). They're two movies I've been pimping forever and, between the two, Rex is the only one that has seen either ("Mary and Max", which he loves).

I liked it. I loved the chaos and the music and the tension. For me it brought out many interesting questions on art and creativity, and where does it become good art, or good creativity, and when is it simply awful even though you believe its good. And of course the lengths people will go to, simply to have a place to fit in. (Or do you just naturally belong?)

I found the ending to be far more emotional than I expected. Bittersweet if ever that word was appropriate.

If you can't stand the prose laden lyrically chaotic Jim Morrison B-sides then you won't like this movie.
