Anxiety of flying and other heights - grew on me

I have flown many, many times, planes, jets, and helicopters (including with the doors open on Huey, combat style).
I use to have no fears of heights, worked construction, rode any roller coaster, and other rides.
Now, I am not deathly afraid of them, but have mild anxiety attacks just thinking about them if I am going to do it.
The gandala ride and Rajun Cajun at Blue Bayou, I ride every summer, but before I get on them, I get the attacks. Funny thing is, the "scariest" ride at Blue Bayou, the Hot Shot, doesn't bother me one bit.
I have a flight scheduled next month, and everyday it gets closer, I want to cancel it and drive.
Anyone else get a fear of heights or flying later in life?

I'm not scared of heights per se, but for some reason I get vertigo when I'm at heights and look up. My real life examples are varied: Ewing Coliseum up in the "nose bleeds" looking up to the roof as a kid: vertigo. The World Trade Center in New York in high school looking over at the other building with the antenna: vertigo. Driving up to go over Luling Bridge: vertigo. It's not severe, but it's noticeable to me. I get lightheaded and dizzy and it fricking pisses me off. Been happening for most of my life.

Guessing this was meant for the older crowd, but nah I welcome heights.

I actually had a slight attack the other day driving over the Mississippi River bridge.

I've never really been afraid of heights, but there was a video on here about a guy who climbs this pole like 2,000 feet in the air and I almost passed out watching it.

Acrophobia has gotten worse with age
Flying isn't as big a deal, it's only worse because when I was a kid I didn't hold my breath at steep drops in turbulence thinking an EMP just went off

I don't mind heights at all. I've had no problem with flights ever. It's only when i'm going up to a height, walking or driving, and look up. And it's been like that since I was a kid. I've bungie jumped from a bridge, been on helicopters that are diving into the clouds from high altitudes, jumped off bridges into water: no problem. It's weird.

I hate bridges, elevators and tall buildings but don't mind standing on a 2,000 cliff on a mountains.
I also prefer cruising in a small plane over an airliner.

See about meds possibly?
Zoloft does wonders for me. I used to get super anxious about tests, interviews, etc. Now they barely haze me.
(Well, that and a "screw this thing, I'm gonna beast it" attitude helps!)

Same thing here. Almost zero fear of heights as a kid. Now I get real skiddish near the edge of a roof, cliff etc.
It just slowly grew over the years. Flying has never bothered me unless shite gets rough near landing or heavy turbulence.

Flying used to never bother me but after becoming a dad and having two bad flights in a row, I quit flying. It's just not worth it, that's what I tell myself.

My internal gyroscope goes crazy at places like the Empire State Bldg., GG Bridge, the Whispering Gallery at St. Paul's Cathedral, etc. I have to stay inside and close my eyes when I go up to the 86th floor of the Empire State. shite starts spinning crazy; no cure so far as I know.

I've never had trouble with heights, but I do get butterflies in my stomach during takeoff and landing. Even though I think takeoff and landing are fun.

Had a bad experience on a flight a decade or more ago. The longer I went without getting on a plane the more the phobia grew (that's the way it works). Haven't been back on a plane. Unexpectedly, when I took my first cruise 3-4 years ago my heart was pounding as I walking up the ramp and reached it's peak when I stepped on the boat. I have always known my fear of flying is not fear of the plane crashing or fear of heights. That cruise experience helped me to fully realize my fear is a.) loss of control. Once you get on....you ain't getting off. b.) with planes it's also partly claustrophobia.
Someday I'm going to have to get on a plane. So far I have dodged it. Once I had to attend a meeting in Chicago. Rode Amtrak from Texas to Chicago.

It happens. I work in a plant and heights used to never be an issue. Now I get panicky thinking about them. I still do my job it just sucks. Having kids made it worse. My wife quitting her job for the kids making me the breadwinner made it worse. Like the if I I they will be fricked kinda fear. It happens

I've always been afraid to fly. It's a giant metal tube with wings THAT IT DOESN'T EVEN FLAP! I mean, COME ON!

Yeah, in college flying to a few events, no big deal.
Now, I get on a plane about once every 5-6 weeks for work, and only an hour flight, but I HATE it. I guess it's the fear of my wife and kids being alone if something were to happen.

Not really. My job doesn't allow it. These pics were from a recent bridge inspection.
