Texas 6A- top four teams in district play make the state playoffs, with the top two enrollments playing in division I and the other two in division II. Brackets are preset, with district #1 seeds in each division playing district #2 seeds. There are 4 regions, made up of districts 1-8, 9-16, 17-24, and 25-32. Regions are kept apart until the state semifinals. With 32 districts, 64 teams make the playoffs in each division, so 128 of 244 6A teams make the playoffs. Nondistrict games are meaningless. There are mostly neutral site playoff games, although the teams can flip a coin and play at the winner's home stadium. Most playoff games are played at a neutral college or even pro stadium. Some have even been played in Shreveport, LA. All of the state championships are played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. There are only two private schools, Dallas Jesuit and Strake Jesuit of Houston, and they face restrictions designed to level their playing fields compared to public schools, but still compete for the same state championships.
Louisiana- a statewide power ranking system determines the 32 out of 53 eligible teams in 5A nonselect (public schools) that play in the state playoffs. District champions are automatically in the playoffs. Playoff games until the state championships in the Superdome are played in home stadiums, with the sites to be determined by power ranking seeds and later on by the amount of home and away games played by each team. 5A select (private and catholic schools), also known as division I, uses a similar system, but every one of 12 teams is guaranteed into the playoffs and byes are used. All schools used to play together in the playoffs, but that was ended by a vote of the LHSAA principals in the 2012 offseason.

I can't imagine anything being worse than what the LHSAA format currently is.

Texas...and it's not close. Aside from too many teams getting in, it's solid.
