It is stunning, but hardly surprising, to watch Rice’s callous disregard for Palmer in the rest of the three-and-a-half minute video. Batterers are confident in their own superiority.

But the latest elevator video also shows the depth of Goodell’s not getting it right. The Post’s Sally Jenkins paints a devastating portrait of his and the NFL’s ineptitude.

The NFL’s reputation is in tatters. The league’s players are such flypaper for trouble that the daily newspaper U-T San Diego keeps a database of all offenses “more serious than a speeding ticket.” The latest being the Aug. 31 arrest of San Francisco 49ers player Ray McDonald “on suspicion of felony domestic violence in San Jose.”

Wouldn't be surprised if they tried to scapegoat some midlevel lackey. Deny, scapegoat, apologize, weather the storm. People aren't gonna stop watching. What can be done?

I was just saying the same thing yesterday to my friends. While women at the very top can be a concern because they can be overly emotional and overreact (See Mary Barra's 29M vehicle recall at GM), there are a few that remain level-headed such as Margaret Thatcher, Angela Markel, and I would say Condi Rice. An outsider with her resume would go a long way toward restoring the image that so many think is tarnished (even though I think the call for Goodell's head is silly given he got the right answer eventually without Ray Rice ever playing a game or getting a paycheck for 2014).
