Am I the only one who thinks the NBA/race issues are stupid?

If a guy is racist, so be it. People are losing high profile jobs, altering the landscape of NBA franchises, just because of personal beliefs? Pathetic.

Whether or not it's write or wrong isn't the issue...these guys have made their bed and have to lay in it. That's bad enough IMO.

You're right. When someone has their business taken away from them it doesn't matter. Because they are rich and you are not. What a mature point of view.

I'm intending to say bluntly:

I think it's stupid for people to lose ANY job based on a point of view that, last I checked, wasn't illegal to have.

I think racism is wrong. Do I think every bigot should be fired? No.

You have to follow rules. You can own a home but if you do something to piss the HOA off they can fine you or kick you out. Same concept. He was part of an association and you have to follow those rules.

I didn't see anything wrong with what the Hawks owner said and he is voluntarily giving up his business.

Im fine with this if the players are also held to these standards but I have a feeling they won't be.

I don't get your point? If I said something stupid in a corporate email I could lose my job. I don't know where you work but that's pretty common in white collar jobs. Go ask Mark Hurd.

He's not being FORCED to sell the team. There is an internal battle going on with the ownership groups and his opponents are doing whatever they can to get him to sell. Leaking emails and things like that are part of the war.

You have every right to hold any beliefs you want. Your employer also has every right to take your job from you if they feel that said views hurt their image or are in conflict with their values

It's bad for business when the employer makes insensitive and degratory remarks about 80% of their workforce...that doesn't fly anywhere.

Can't insult your base and just think it's okay.

Their beliefs are bad for business and really have no place in a modern and inclusive society. It's better be on the progressive end of social issues.

Exactly. It's bad for business. Plus we have the whole slave/slave master dynamic (not saying it exists in the nba) and the last thing you want is that perception to become prevalent about your sport..a bunch of rich white guys that use black bodies for profit but think little of them.

The issues with the hawks are more an ownership power struggle than racism IMO.

They don't like Danny Ferry either.

This is a terrible argument. The discussion we should be having is the extreme broadening of the definition of racism.

He's the one volunteering to have his business taken away, nobody has forced him out.

I don't understand how people don't get this.

It's not about being racist. Fine who cares be racist. But when you say things that negatively impact your company and can cause them to lose money you will be gone.

Yeah, you're right. The way they treat their players by paying them millions of dollars definitely reminds me of slavery.

I think what the OP is saying is that why is racism this big of a deal when its a personal belief. Its not stopping him from paying players more than fairly. Lots of people have negative beliefs that include groups of people. So, if Tom Benson is caught on the phone calling somebody a fatty is every lineman in the NFL going to strike?
